Abstract

A health-monitor patch comprising at least one physiological sensor and digital processor is configured to be adhered to the skin of a subject. A health-monitor patch may further include an accelerometer and may detect cardiac waveforms, activity performed by the subject, and a body orientation of the subject. A health-monitor patch may be disposable, in some embodiments, and used for outpatient monitoring. Aspects of noise cancellation and reel-to-reel manufacturing are also described.

Claims

1. A wearable monitor for a subject, comprising:

a first insulating layer having a first adhesive surface;

a second insulating layer having a second adhesive surface, wherein a first portion of the second adhesive surface is adhered to a first portion of the first adhesive surface;

a first circuit component disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer;

a second circuit component disposed at least partially between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer or at least partially within the second insulating layer; and

a flexible, pressure-sensitive, conductive adhesive film disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer, the conductive adhesive film being electrically connected between the first circuit component and the second circuit component so as to establish a conductive path for carrying a signal between the first circuit component and the second circuit component via the conductive adhesive film.

2. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the first circuit component and the second circuit component are laterally displaced from each other.

3. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the first circuit component comprises a processor that is configured to receive the signal.

4. The wearable monitor of claim 3, wherein:

the wearable monitor further comprises a skin adhesion surface associated with the second insulating layer and a release liner releasably attached to the skin adhesion surface;

the second circuit component comprises a monitor electrode configured and arranged to be exposed at the skin adhesion surface when the release liner is removed from the skin adhesion surface; and

the processor is configured to process the signal to evaluate a monitored characteristic of the subject.

5. The wearable monitor of claim 3, wherein the conductive adhesive film comprises a portion of isotropically conductive pressure sensitive tape.

6. The wearable monitor of claim 3, wherein:

the second circuit component comprises a monitor electrode configured and arranged to receive the signal from a skin surface of the subject; and

the processor is configured to process the signal to evaluate a monitored characteristic of the subject.

7. The wearable monitor of claim 3, wherein the second circuit component comprises a battery having a terminal that produces the signal.

8. The wearable monitor of claim 7, wherein the battery is disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer.

9. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein:

the second circuit component comprises a monitor electrode configured and arranged to receive the signal from a skin surface of the subject.

10. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the second insulating layer incorporates the second circuit component.

11. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein:

the conductive adhesive film has a third adhesive surface;

a first portion of the third adhesive surface is adhered to the first circuit component; and

a second portion of the third adhesive surface is adhered to a second portion of the first adhesive surface.

12. The wearable monitor of claim 11, wherein the first circuit component is adhered to a third portion of the first adhesive surface.

13. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the first circuit component is adhered to a second portion of the first adhesive surface.

14. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the conductive adhesive film comprises a portion of isotropically conductive pressure sensitive tape.

15. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the second circuit component is disposed at least partially between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer.

16. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the second circuit component is disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer.

17. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the second circuit component is disposed at least partially within the second insulating layer.

18. The wearable monitor of claim 1, wherein the second circuit component comprises a battery having a terminal that produces the signal.

19. The wearable monitor of claim 18, wherein the battery is disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer.

20. A wearable monitor for a subject, comprising:

a first insulating layer having a first surface that is adhesive;

a first circuit component that is adhered to a first portion of the first surface;

a second insulating layer having a second surface, wherein a first portion of the second surface is adhered to a second portion of the first surface;

a second circuit component disposed at least partially between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer or at least partially within the second insulating layer; and

a flexible, pressure-sensitive, conductive adhesive film disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer, the conductive adhesive film being electrically connected between the first circuit component and the second circuit component so as to establish a conductive path for carrying a signal between the first circuit component and the second circuit component via the conductive adhesive film.

21. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein the first circuit component and the second circuit component are laterally displaced from each other.

22. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein the first circuit component comprises a processor that is configured to receive the signal.

23. The wearable monitor of claim 22, wherein:

the wearable monitor further comprises a skin adhesion surface associated with the second insulating layer and a release liner releasably attached to the skin adhesion surface;

the second circuit component comprises a monitor electrode configured and arranged to be exposed at the skin adhesion surface when the release liner is removed from the skin adhesion surface; and

the processor is configured to process the signal to evaluate a monitored characteristic of the subject.

24. The wearable monitor of claim 22, wherein the conductive adhesive film comprises a portion of isotropically conductive pressure sensitive tape.

25. The wearable monitor of claim 22, wherein:

the second circuit component comprises a monitor electrode configured and arranged to receive the signal from a skin surface of the subject; and

the processor is configured to process the signal to evaluate a monitored characteristic of the subject.

26. The wearable monitor of claim 22, wherein the second circuit component comprises a battery having a terminal that produces the signal.

27. The wearable monitor of claim 26, wherein the battery is disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer.

28. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein the second circuit component comprises a battery having a terminal that produces the signal.

29. The wearable monitor of claim 28, wherein the battery is disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer.

30. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein the second insulating surface incorporates the second circuit component.

31. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein:

the conductive adhesive film has a third surface that is adhesive;

a first portion of the third surface is adhered to the first circuit component; and

a second portion of the third surface is adhered to a third portion of the first surface.

32. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein:

the second circuit component comprises a monitor electrode configured and arranged to receive the signal from a skin surface of the subject.

33. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein the second surface is adhesive.

34. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein the second circuit component is disposed at least partially between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer.

35. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein the second circuit component is disposed between the first insulating layer and the second insulating layer.

36. The wearable monitor of claim 20, wherein the second circuit component is disposed at least partially within the second insulating layer.
