- (a) detecting levels of tafazzin (TAZ1) mRNA in a biological sample from the subject; and
(b) selecting the subject for aromatic-cationic peptide treatment where the level of TAZ1 mRNA in the biological sample from the subject is reduced about 2.5-fold compared to the normal control sample, and(c) administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of the aromatic-cationic peptide, wherein the aromatic-cationic peptide is D-Arg-2′
