1. An end effector assembly for an electrosurgical device, the end effector assembly comprising:

  • first and second jaw members movable relative to one another between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position, each of the first and second jaw members including an opposed tissue-contacting surface, the opposed tissue-contacting surfaces cooperating to define a tissue grasping area for grasping tissue therebetween when the first and second jaw members are moved to the approximated position, one of the first and second jaw members including;

    an electrically-insulating body defining an outer back surface and an opposed surface that forms part of the tissue-contacting surface of the jaw member, wherein the tissue-contacting surface of the jaw member defines two chamfered exterior lateral sides;

    an interior electrode positioned interiorly of outer bounds of the tissue grasping area, at least a portion of the interior electrode forming part of the tissue-contacting surface of the jaw member; and

    an exterior electrode positioned exteriorly of the outer bounds of the tissue grasping area, the exterior electrode extending along the outer back surface of the electrically-insulating body, through the electrically-insulating body, and bends adjacent to the chamfered exterior lateral sides, wherein the interior and exterior electrodes are configured to conduct energy through the tissue grasped between the first and second jaw members and within the tissue grasping area to seal the tissue grasped within the tissue grasping area.
