A method of reducing a dextromethorphan trough effect, comprising administering a combination of a bupropion and a dextromethorphan once or twice a day for at least eight consecutive days to a human being in need of treatment with dextromethorphan, wherein the human being is an extensive metabolizer of dextromethorphan, wherein the daily dose of the dextromethorphan is about 40 mg to about 140 mg, and wherein, on the eighth consecutive day of administering the combination of the bupropion and the dextromethorphan, the human being has a Cmin of dextromethorphan that is at least about 20 ng/mL, and the Cmin of dextromethorphan is at least about 20 times a reference Cmin of dextromethorphan that would result from administering the daily dose of the same amount of the dextromethorphan without the bupropion to the human being for eight consecutive days.
