- accessing an implanted component of a medical device implanted in a recipient through an incision in skin of the recipient, the implanted component including a magnet apparatus;
inserting a tool through the incision in the skin towards the magnet apparatus;
positioning a portion of the tool underneath a skull facing side of the magnet apparatus; and
removing the magnet apparatus while the implanted component remains implanted in the recipient.

A magnetic alignment system that can form part of a cochlear implant system. The magnetic alignment system prevents substantial movement of a magnet of an implanted component during an MRI procedure or allows for easy removal of the magnet to facilitate the MRI procedure.

accessing an implanted component of a hearing prosthesis implanted in a recipient and lying on a skull bone of the recipient through an incision in skin of the recipient, the implanted component including a magnet apparatus about which extends a communication antenna configured to communicate through the skin of the recipient to an external component, the magnet apparatus includes a casing and a magnet within the casing; inserting a tool through the incision in the skin towards the magnet apparatus; and removing the magnet apparatus while the implanted component remains implanted in the recipient, wherein the magnet apparatus is at least partially enveloped by a silicone body; and the method further includes inserting the tool into the silicone body towards the magnet apparatus and freeing the magnet apparatus from the implanted component with the tool while the implanted component remains implanted in the recipient. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24)

accessing an implanted component of a hearing prosthesis implanted in a recipient and lying on a skull bone of the recipient through an incision in skin of the recipient, the implanted component including a magnet apparatus about which extends a communication antenna configured to communicate through the skin of the recipient to an external component, the magnet apparatus includes a casing and a magnet within the casing, the implanted component further including a ceramic body having cavity in which the magnet apparatus is located, the ceramic body extending about the magnet apparatus, and wherein the implantable component also includes a silicone body that extends about the ceramic body; inserting a tool through the incision in the skin towards the magnet apparatus; subsequent to inserting the tool through the incision in the skin towards the magnet apparatus, rotating the tool relative to the implanted component; after rotating the tool, removing the magnet apparatus from the implanted component while the implanted component remains implanted in the recipient, wherein the action of removing the magnet apparatus from the implantable component entails withdrawing the magnet apparatus from the cavity; and exposing the recipient to an MRI field after the magnet apparatus is removed. - View Dependent Claims (26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33)
