1. In a data visualization computing system, implemented on an electronic computing device, a computer implemented method of displaying predicted paths of a vehicle and predicting whether or not the vehicle is being followed, the method consisting of the steps of:
- identifying the vehicle;
identifying current location and direction of the vehicle;
identifying likely destinations of the vehicle using historical data on destinations the vehicle went when previously at the current location, when traveling in the current direction;
rendering predicted vehicle paths to the likely destinations as a Sankey diagram overlaid on a map, wherein a thickness of each Sankey path is reflective of a probability that a particular path will be followed;
displaying the rendered predicted vehicle paths on a display;
receiving a request to identify if the vehicle is being followed;
identifying potentially following vehicles, being vehicles different from the vehicle;
identifying the potentially following vehicles that are outside their normal travel path;
identifying owners of the potentially following vehicles that are outside their normal travel path;
selecting potentially following vehicles based on the owners of the potentially following vehicles; and
displaying information on each potentially following vehicle and the vehicle owner of each potentially following vehicle.

Abstract
A method of displaying data in a data visualization computing system is described. Various methods of displaying the data are described including using a timeline, the data being aggregated based on time periods wherein the timeline consists of a plurality of time period sizes, the current selected time period covering the smallest time period, the period furthest on the timeline from the current selected period covering the largest time period, the timeline consisting of at least one time period of each time period size. Also described are improved methods of data selection and display.

7. In a data visualization computing system, implemented on an electronic computing device, a computer implemented method of displaying predicted paths of a vehicle, the method consisting of the steps of:
-
identifying the vehicle, wherein the vehicle is a speeding vehicle and the vehicle is identified by a vehicle license plate; identifying current location and direction of the vehicle, wherein the current location and direction of the vehicle are identified based on a plurality of camera images, from a plurality of cameras at known camera locations; identifying likely destinations of the vehicle using historical data on destinations the vehicle went when previously at the current location, when traveling in the current direction, wherein the historical data on the vehicle is based on information stored on the vehicle in a database, the historical data being a plurality of historical camera images, from the plurality of cameras at known camera locations and wherein identifying the likely destinations of the vehicle includes using time information, the time information including time of day, day of week and season information and wherein the probability of a particular path includes a weighting based on the time information; rendering predicted vehicle paths to the likely destinations as a Sankey diagram overlaid on a map, wherein a thickness of each Sankey path is reflective of a probability that a particular path will be followed; displaying the rendered predicted vehicle paths on a display; updating the predicted vehicle paths in response to identifying a new current location and direction of the vehicle; receiving a request to identify if the vehicle is being followed; identifying potentially following vehicles, being vehicles different from the vehicle; identifying the potentially following vehicles that are outside their normal travel path; identifying owners of the potentially following vehicles that are outside their normal travel path; selecting potentially following vehicles based on the owners of the potentially following vehicles; and displaying information on each potentially following vehicle and the owner of each potentially following vehicle. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11, 12)
