Deformable valve mechanism for controlling fluid delivery
First Claim
Patent Images
1. A valve for controlling delivery of fluid between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, comprising:
- a chamber having a wall and a compression surface, the chamber fluidly connected between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet; and
a valve membrane with a central axis and a protruding portion, the protruding portion comprising a conical portion with an apex extending toward the compression surface, wherein the apex comprises a cylindrical tip;
wherein the valve membrane is positioned within the chamber such that, in an undeformed position, the conical portion permits fluid to flow from the fluid inlet, between the conical portion and the wall, to the fluid outlet, and, in a deformed position, the apex engages against the compression surface and the conical portion is radially expanded to engage against the wall to restrict fluid flow between the conical portion and the wall.

Abstract
A valve for controlling delivery of fluid includes a valve seat comprising a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet and a conical well having an opening, a beveled surface and a bottom, and a valve membrane comprising a conical portion having a base and a tip. The conical portion is configured to fit within the conical well of the valve seat. The valve membrane is configured to fluidly connect the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet when the valve membrane is in an undeformed position and fluidly disconnect the fluid inlet from the fluid outlet when the valve membrane is in a radially deformed position.

7. A fluid delivery system for delivering fluid from a fluid source to a patient, comprising:
-
a first actuator mechanism; a valve having a first chamber with a wall and a compression surface, the first chamber fluidly coupled to a first fluid inlet and a fluid outlet; and a first valve membrane having a central axis, an actuation area, and a protruding portion, the protruding portion comprising a conical portion with an apex extending from the actuation area toward the compression surface, wherein the apex comprises a cylindrical tip; wherein the first valve membrane is positioned within the chamber such that, in an undeformed position, the conical portion permits fluid to flow from the first fluid inlet, between the conical portion and the wall, to the fluid outlet, and, in a deformed position, the first actuator mechanism engages the actuation area to axially compress the first valve membrane and engage the apex against the compression surface such that the conical portion is radially expanded to engage the wall and restrict fluid flow between the conical portion and the wall. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)

15. A method for controlling delivery of fluid between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, comprising:
-
providing a chamber with a wall and a compression surface, and a valve membrane with a central axis and a protruding portion, the protruding portion comprising a conical portion with an apex having a cylindrical tip and extending toward the compression surface, wherein the chamber is fluidly connected between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet; directing a fluid flow from the fluid inlet, between the conical portion and the wall, to the fluid outlet when the protruding portion is in an undeformed position; and restricting the fluid flow between the conical portion and the wall by engaging the apex against the compression surface and radially expanding the conical portion to engage the wall in a deformed position. - View Dependent Claims (16)
