Identification of packet traffic transmitted by various devices operated in multiple overlapped frequency bands in packet-based OFDM systems
First Claim
1. A wireless OFDM transceiver comprising:
- a receiver operable to receive a first packet type and a second packet type using wireless OFDM communications,wherein the first packet type is associated with a first channel bandwidth,wherein the second packet type is associated with a second channel bandwidth,wherein the second channel bandwidth is wider than the first channel bandwidth,wherein the first and second channel bandwidth have one or more overlapping frequency regions; and
a demodulator/decoder module, connected to and in communication with the receiver, operable to detect whether a received packet is of the first packet type or of the second packet type based on a phase and/or an amplitude of at least one subcarrier of a preamble portion of the packet;
the receiver further operable to receive a first plurality of header information bits using a first mapping of header information bits to subcarriers in the first channel bandwidth when the first packet type is detected, wherein the first mapping determines a first order in which the first plurality of header information bits are mapped to subcarriers; and
the receiver further operable to receive a second plurality of header information bits using a second mapping of header information bits to subcarriers in the second channel bandwidth wherein the second mapping determines a second order when the second packet type is detected, in which the second plurality of header information bits are mapped to subcarriers,wherein the first mapping of header information bits to subcarriers is different than the second mapping of header information bits to subcarriers, andwherein a difference in the first and second mapping requires detection of whether the received packet is of the first packet type or the second packet type to be performed prior to decoding the first or the second plurality of header information bits.

Abstract
Techniques for header encoding include encoding a plurality of bits using a forward error correction code, generating an FEC codeword comprising a plurality of encoded bits, and concatenating a first copy of the FEC codeword with a second copy of the FEC codeword, wherein the concatenating comprises cyclically shifting by two bits the second concatenated copy of the FEC codeword relative to the first concatenated copy of the FEC codeword, wherein the encoded bits of the first and second copies of the FEC codewords are modulated on at least one OFDM symbol. techniques for header decoding include receiving a plurality of encoded bits comprising at least two concatenated copies of an FEC codeword, decoding a first copy of the FEC codeword to generate a first plurality of decoded bits, and decoding a second copy of the FEC codeword to generate a second plurality of decoded bits.
