1. A method of operating a variable speed combustion blower of a combustion appliance that has four or more different firing rates, including a lower firing rate, a higher firing rate and at least two intermediate firing rates between the lower firing rate and the higher firing rate, each of the four or more firing rates having a different corresponding combustion blower speed, the method comprising:

  • adjusting a speed of the variable speed combustion blower until a first pressure switch changes state;

    measuring a first blower speed in blower RPM that corresponds to the change in state of the first pressure switch;

    adjusting the speed of the variable speed combustion blower until a second pressure switch changes state;

    measuring a second blower speed in blower RPM that corresponds to the change in state of the second pressure switch, wherein the second blower speed is different from the first blower speed;

    determining a blower speed in blower RPM that corresponds to each of the lower firing rate, the higher firing rate, the first intermediate firing rate, and the second intermediate firing rate of the combustion appliance by interpolating and/or extrapolating using the first blower speed and the second blower speed; and

    controlling the speed of the variable speed combustion blower using one or more of the lower firing rate, the higher firing rate, the first intermediate firing rate, and the second intermediate firing rate.
