Abstract

A system includes a plurality of RFID chips affixed to a medical item, a data collection engine device, and a server device. The data collection engine wirelessly transmits power to a first one of the RFID chips and receives first medical data from the first RFID chip while the first RFID chip is activated by the power receiver. The data collection engine generates a first message indicative of the first medical data to be sent to the server device. The server device can determine aspects of the medical item based upon the first medical data.

Claims

1. A method of monitoring a medical storage unit, comprising:

receiving information identifying a particular temperature range related to a medical item and storing the information in a memory associated with the medical item;

receiving temperature information from the medical storage unit, wherein the temperature information includes a temperature of the medical storage unit;

storing the temperature information in the memory to indicate the temperature of the medical storage unit versus time;

generating an output value from a trained neural network model (NNM) based upon the temperature information; and

generating an alarm when the output value indicates that the temperature of the medical storage unit is likely outside the particular temperature range related to the medical item.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the information identifying the particular temperature range related to the medical item and the temperature information from the medical storage unit is received from an radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

performing pre-processing on the temperature information to generate an input data set; and

generate the output value from the trained model based upon the input data set.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

training a NNM to generate the trained NNM, wherein the training of the NNM includes;

performing pre-processing on a plurality of attributes for each of a plurality of past risk state events to generate a plurality of input data sets;

dividing the plurality of past risk state events into a first set of training data and a second set of validation data;

iteratively performing a machine learning algorithm (MLA) to update synaptic weights of the NNM based upon the training data; and

validating the NNM based upon the second set of validation data.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein:

the NNM includes an input layer, output layer, and a plurality of hidden layers with a plurality of hidden neurons; and

each of the plurality of hidden neurons includes an activation function, the activation function is one of;

(1) the sigmoid function f(x)=1/(1+e<sup>−

x</sup>);

(2) the hyperbolic tangent function f(x)=(e^2x−

1)/(e^2x+1); and

(3) a linear function f(x)=x,

wherein x is a summation of input neurons biased by the synoptic weights.

6. A medical storage unit for storing one or more medical items, comprising;

a first radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag including;

a controller configured according to instructions in memory to generate a message including identification information and medical data; and

one or more antenna portions configured to transmit the message and to wirelessly receiving power from a power transmission subsystem;

a reader device communicating with the first RFID tag, wherein the reader device comprises;

a transceiver configured to receive the message from the first RFID tag;

a controller operatively coupled to the transceiver; and

one or more memory sources operatively coupled to the controller, the one or more memory sources including instructions for configuring the controller to generate one or more messages indicative of the identification information and the medical data to be sent by the transceiver to a server device via a network connection.

7. The medical storage unit of claim 6, wherein:

the transceiver of the reader device is further configured to receive another message from another RFID tag, the another message including user identification information of a medical professional; and

the controller of the reader device is further configured to determine whether to allow access to the medical storage unit based upon the user identification information.

8. The medical storage unit of claim 6, wherein:

the one or more medical items are endoscopes;

each of the endoscopes includes a second RFID tag; and

the reader device is further configured to receive a message from one of the second RFID tags associated with one of the endoscopes when the one of the endoscopies is removed from the medical storage unit.

9. The medical storage unit of claim 6, wherein:

the one or more medical items include blood products;

the first RFID tag or second RFID tag includes a sensor for sensing a temperature of an interior of the medical storage unit;

the transceiver of the reader device is further configured to receive the sensed temperature from the first RFID tag or the second RFID tag;

the controller of the reader device is further configured to include the sensed temperature in the one or more messages to be sent by the transceiver to the server device.

10. The medical storage unit of claim 6, wherein the reader device includes the power transmission subsystem.

11. The medical storage unit of claim 6, wherein the medical data includes expiration dates for each of the medical items.

12. The medical storage unit of claim 6, wherein the medical data includes cleaning and maintenance cycles for each of the medical items.

13. The medical storage unit of claim 6, wherein:

the first RFID tag is associated with one of the medical items;

the transceiver of the reader device is further configured to receive another message from another RFID tag, the another message including user identification information of a medical professional; and

the transceiver of the reader device generates a message indicative of the medical professional having used the one of the medical items.
