- one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) with at least one optical transmitter and receiver optically coupled to an optical network over 1 Mbps using at least one LED with a first mode to communicate positional data over a peer to peer network and a second mode to communicate using broadband optical transmission with a plurality of optical transceivers to communicate over 1 Mbps with mobile laptops or high resolution digital displays, and where each transceiver includes an optical data communications transmitter configured to modulate data to be transmitted onto an optical output of the transceiver and an optical data communications receiver configured to receive an optical signal and to demodulate the received signal to recover transmitted data, and wherein transmitter is configured to spread the transmitted data using a pseudorandom sequence from a pseudorandom generator, and wherein the receiver is configured to despread the received optical signal to recover the transmitted data; and
a controller coupled to the LEDs, the controller communicating with the optical network using the optical transmitter and receiver.

encoding a local location or an indoor position with an object; optically communicating over a network using one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) using encrypted pulsed light above 1 Mbps broadband optical transmissions with a plurality of optical transceivers to communicate over 1 Mbps with mobile laptops or high resolution digital displays, and where each transceiver includes an optical data communications transmitter configured to modulate data to be transmitted onto an optical output of the transceiver and an optical data communications receiver configured to receive an optical signal and to demodulate the received signal to recover transmitted data, and wherein transmitter is configured to spread the transmitted data using a pseudorandom sequence, and wherein the receiver is configured to despread the received optical signal to recover the transmitted data; and communicating the local position or indoor position with the network using the optical transmitter and receiver. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
