Abstract

An a remote battery management system, a management device for such a system and a remote battery management method are provided, with which a demand for electrical power of an external power grid is identified and then met with the help of a battery system connected to that power grid.

Claims

1. A remote battery management system comprising:

at least one battery system installed at a building of a customer and connected to an external power grid, wherein the battery system is configured to store excess electrical power and to supply stored electrical power to said external power grid;

a management device connected to said at least one battery system via a connection, wherein said management device is configured to

identify a demand for electrical power of said external power grid or of a load connected to said external power grid,

transmit a request for customer permission to use electric power stored at the building of said customer, to an electronic input module of said customer,

receive a response to the request from said electronic input module, and

upon the response being a response permitting use, operating said at least one battery system to supply electrical power to said external power grid to meet said demand for electrical power.

2. The management system according to claim 1, wherein said battery system is configured to store excess electrical power supplied by a local power generator and/or through said external power grid.

The management system according to claim 2, wherein said management device is further configured to disregard said response permitting use after receiving said affirmative response from said further electronic input module and determining that said demand for electrical power has been met by operating said further battery system.

4. The management system according to claim 1, further comprising at least one further battery system connected to said external power grid, wherein said management device is further configured to

transmit a further request requesting electric power service to a further electronic input module, and

upon receiving an affirmative response from said further electronic input module to the further request, operating said further battery system to supply electrical power to said external power grid to meet said demand for electrical power, if operating said battery system to supply electrical power to said external power grid is not sufficient to meet said demand for electrical power.

5. The management system according to claim 1, wherein said management device is further configured to disregard said response permitting use after a lapse of a predetermined amount of time.

6. The management system according to claim 1, wherein said management device is further configured to transmit an updated inquiry requesting electric power service to said electronic input module of said customer.

7. The management system according to claim 1, wherein said management device is connected to said at least one battery system via a wire connection.

8. The management System according to claim 1, wherein said management device is connected to said at least one battery system via a wireless connection.

9. The management system according to claim 1, wherein said battery system is configured to store solar power from a solar panel installation.

10. The management system according to claim 9, wherein said management device is configured to identify said demand for electrical power by analyzing past delivery of electrical energy to the external power grid and past withdrawal of electrical energy from the external power grid.

11. The management system according to claim 9, wherein said management device is configured to identify said demand for electrical power by monitoring an electrical parameter at said external power grid or at said load.

12. The management system according to claim 11, wherein said electrical parameter is a voltage value, a change of a voltage value, a frequency value, or a change of a frequency value at said external power grid or at said load.

13. The management system according to claim 11, further comprising at least one sensor connected to said external power grid and/or to said load, which sensor monitors said electrical parameter and is connected to said management device.

14. The management system according to claim 1, wherein said management device is configured to identify a current and/or a future demand for electrical power of said external power grid or of a load connected to said external power grid.

15. The management system according to claim 1, wherein the request comprises a message indicating a request for the customer'"'"'s battery system to be used for backup power and an amount of monetary compensation for the backup power for accepting the request.

16. The management system according to claim 1, wherein, upon the response being a response not permitting use, said at least one battery system is not operated to supply electrical power to said external power grid.

17. The management system according to claim 1, wherein the response is input by the customer to a user interface of the electronic input module.

18. A remote battery management method for managing a remote battery management system comprising at least one battery system installed at a building and electrically connected to an external power grid, wherein the battery system is configured to store excess electrical power and to supply stored electrical power to said external power grid, wherein the method comprises the following steps:

identifying a demand for electrical power of said external power grid or of a load connected to said external power grid,

transmitting a request for customer permission to use electric power stored at the building, to an electronic input module,

receiving a response to the request from said electronic input module, and

upon the response being a response permitting use, operating said at least one battery system to supply electrical power to said external power grid to meet said demand for electrical power.

19. The remote battery management method according to claim 18, wherein said system further comprises at least one further battery system connected to said external power grid, said method further comprising the following steps:

transmitting a further request requesting electric power service to a further electronic input module, and

upon receiving an affirmative response from said further electronic input module to the further request, operating a further battery system to supply electrical power to said external power grid to meet said demand for electrical power, if operating said battery system to supply electrical power to said external power grid is not sufficient to meet said demand for electrical power.

20. The remote battery management method according to claim 18, wherein the request comprises a message indicating a request for the customer'"'"'s battery system to be used for backup power and an amount of monetary compensation for the backup power for accepting the request.

21. A management device for a Remote Battery Management System comprising at least one battery system installed at a building and electrically connected to an external power grid, the at least one battery system storing excess electrical power and supplying the stored electrical power to said external power grid, the management device comprising at least one microprocessor configured to:

identify a demand for electrical power of said external power grid or of a load connected to said external power grid,

transmit a request for customer permission to use electric power stored at the building, to an electronic input module,

receive a response to the request from said electronic input module, and

upon the response being a response permitting use, operate said at least one battery system to supply electrical power to said external power grid to meet said demand for electrical power.

22. The management device according to claim 21, wherein the request comprises a message indicating a request for the customer'"'"'s battery system to be used for backup power and an amount of monetary compensation for the backup power for accepting the request.
