Abstract

An arrow nock may have at least two distinct string guides each designed to receive a bowstring to fire an arrow from a bow. When the nock is connected to and aligned with the arrow, each distinct string guide may be designed, when receiving the bowstring, to rotate the arrow about its longitudinal axis with respect to the bow into one of a limited number of alignment orientations.

Claims

1. A nock for use with an associated arrow having a longitudinal axis and an associated bow that:

(1) has a bowstring; and

(2) is designed to receive the associated arrow for firing in a limited number of alignment orientations, the nock comprising;

a connection surface designed to connect the nock to the associated arrow; and

at least first and second distinct string guides each designed to receive the bowstring to fire the associated arrow from the associated bow;

wherein when the nock is connected to and aligned with the associated arrow, each distinct string guide is designed, when receiving the associated bowstring, to rotate the associated arrow about its longitudinal axis with respect to the associated bow into one of the limited number of alignment orientations.

2. The nock of claim 1 wherein each string guide comprises a concave impression having gradually sloping sides and a base.

3. The nock of claim 1 wherein each string guide comprises a pair of impressions positioned on opposite ends of a bisecting line that bisects a top surface of the nock.

4. The nock of claim 1 wherein:

the associated arrow has at least two fletching vanes;

the associated bow is positioned on an associated crossbow having a barrel slot;

a first of the limited number of alignment orientations occurs when a first of the at least two fletching vanes is aligned within the barrel slot; and

a second of the limited number of alignment orientations occurs when a second of the at least two fletching vanes is aligned within the barrel slot.

5. The nock of claim 1 wherein the nock comprises at least three distinct string guides each designed to receive the bowstring to fire the associated arrow from the associated bow.

6. The nock of claim 1 wherein:

the first string guide lies on a first bisecting line that bisects a top surface of the nock;

the second string guide lies on a second bisecting line that bisects the top surface of the nock; and

the second bisecting line is disposed at one of;

(1) a ninety degree angle with respect to the first bisecting line;

(2) a sixty degree angle with respect to the first bisecting line;

(3) a forty-five degree angle with respect to the first bisecting line;

(4) a thirty-six degree angle with respect to the first bisecting line; and

(5) a thirty degree angle with respect to the first bisecting line.

7. The nock of claim 1 further comprising:

an attachment slot configured to selectively engage a nock guide; and

wherein the nock guide is configured to align the nock with the associated arrow.

8. A nock for use with an associated arrow having a longitudinal axis and an associated bow that:

(1) has a bowstring; and

(2) is designed to receive the associated arrow for firing in a limited number of alignment orientations, the nock comprising;

a connection surface designed to connect the nock to the associated arrow; and

at least first and second distinct string guides each designed to receive the associated bowstring to fire the associated arrow from the associated bow;

wherein when the nock is connected to and aligned with the associated arrow, each distinct string guide is designed, when receiving the associated bowstring, to rotate the associated arrow about its longitudinal axis with respect to the associated bow to prevent the associated arrow from remaining in any orientation other than one of the limited number of alignment orientations.

9. The nock of claim 8 wherein each string guide comprises a concave impression having gradually sloping sides and a base.

10. The nock of claim 8 wherein each string guide comprises a pair of impressions positioned on opposite ends of a bisecting line that bisects a top surface of the nock.

11. The nock of claim 8 wherein:

the associated arrow has at least one fletching vane;

the associated bow is positioned on an associated crossbow having a barrel slot; and

an orientation that the nock prevents the associated arrow from remaining in is when the at least one fletching vane is misaligned with respect to the barrel slot.

12. The nock of claim 8 wherein:

the associated bow is positioned on an associated crossbow having a barrel; and

an orientation that the nock prevents the associated arrow from remaining in is when the associated arrow has risen above the barrel.

13. The nock of claim 8 wherein the nock comprises at least three distinct string guides each designed to receive the bowstring to fire the associated arrow from the associated bow.

14. A method comprising the steps of:

(A) providing a nock with a connection surface and at least first and second distinct string guides;

(B) providing the nock to be useful with an associated arrow having a longitudinal axis and an associated bow that;

(1) has a bowstring; and

(2) is designed to receive the associated arrow for firing in a limited number of alignment orientations; and

(C) providing the nock to be operable to perform the following steps;

(1) connecting the connection surface to the associated arrow and aligning the nock with respect to the associated arrow;

(2) receiving the bowstring in the first string guide to cause the associated arrow to rotate about its longitudinal axis with respect to the associated bow into a first of the limited number of alignment orientations; and

(3) receiving the bowstring in the second string guide to cause the associated arrow to rotate about its longitudinal axis with respect to the associated bow into a second of the limited number of alignment orientations.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein step (A) comprises the step of:

providing each string guide with a concave impression having gradually sloping sides and a base.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein step (A) comprises the step of:

providing each string guide with a pair of impressions positioned on opposite ends of a bisecting line that bisects a top surface of the nock.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein:

step (C)(2) comprises the step of;

firing the associated arrow; and

step (C)(3) comprises the step of;

firing the associated arrow.

18. The method of claim 14 wherein:

step (A) comprises the step of;

providing the nock with a third distinct string guide; and

step (C) comprises the step of;

receiving the bowstring in the third string guide to cause the associated arrow to rotate about its longitudinal axis with respect to the associated bow into a third of the limited number of alignment orientations.

19. The method of claim 14 wherein:

step (B) comprises the steps of;

providing the associated arrow to have at least two fletching vanes; and

providing the associated bow to be positioned on an associated crossbow having a barrel slot;

step (C)(2) comprises the step of;

causing the associated arrow to rotate about its longitudinal axis with respect to the associated bow until a first of the at least two fletching vanes is aligned within the barrel slot; and

step (C)(3) comprises the step of;

causing the associated arrow to rotate about its longitudinal axis with respect to the associated bow until a second of the at least two fletching vanes is aligned within the barrel slot.

20. The method of claim 14 wherein:

step (B) comprises the step of;

providing the associated arrow to have at least one fletching vane; and

step (C)(1) comprises the step of;

aligning the first string guide with respect to the fletching vane.
