1. A patient interface mask for use with a breathing assistance apparatus, comprising:

  • a body comprising a frame and a seal that, in use, circumscribes a nose, mouth, or nose and mouth of a patient and, together with the frame, defines an interior space of the patient interface mask;

    an inlet into the interior space;

    a bias flow outlet from the interior space configured separately of the inlet and configured to vent gases to atmosphere; and

    a sensor that is positioned outside of the body in a location proximate to the bias flow outlet such that the sensor is positioned in a path of exit gases exiting the interior space to atmosphere through the bias flow outlet,wherein the sensor detects a parameter of the exit gases, andwherein the sensor is supported by a support arrangement that surrounds the inlet.
