1. A wearable device, comprising:

  • one or more first sensors configured to generate motion sensor data;

    one or more second sensors configured to generate environmental sensor data;

    a storage device configured to store a plurality of messages;

    a display configured to display the plurality of messages; and

    one or more processors in communication with the storage device and configured to;

    determine, based at least on the motion sensor data generated during a first time period, that the wearable device has been inactive for at least a threshold amount of time;

    subsequent to the determination that the wearable device has been inactive for at least the threshold amount of time, cause the display to be turned off;

    subsequent to causing the display to be turned off, determine, based at least on the motion sensor data generated during a second time period subsequent to the first time period, that the wearable device is no longer inactive;

    based at least on the determination that the wearable device is no longer inactive, select, based at least on one or both of the environmental sensor data or an orientation of the wearable device, a message from the plurality of messages stored in the storage device and cause the selected message to be displayed on the display;

    wherein the environmental sensor data comprises at least one sensed environmental condition including one or more of ambient light, temperature, ambient pressure, altitude, humidity, or ambient sound; and

    wherein the message comprises information relating to one or more of the at least one sensed environmental condition, fitness activity, or social network activity.
