1. A powered surgical handpiece comprising:
- a housing comprising a motor;
a surgical tool removably coupled to the housing and configured to be driven by the motor, wherein the surgical tool includes a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag;
an antenna for wirelessly transmitting RF energy;
a single-piece coupler including only a single metal structure extending from a proximal end positioned adjacent to the antenna and a distal end positioned adjacent to the RFID tag, wherein the coupler is electrically isolated from the antenna and the RFID tag, and is configured to guide the transmitted RF energy to the RFID tag; and
wherein the RFID tag stores last used operational parameters from a last time that the surgical tool was used, wherein the handpiece automatically uses the last used operational parameters again when the surgical tool is removed and later re-used in the handpiece.
