Abstract

A wireless headlight assembly for attachment to an eyewear frame is disclosed. The wireless headlight assembly comprises a battery pod containing a battery connected to a lower housing element, which controls the application of power from the battery to an attached headlight assembly containing a headlight.

Claims

1. A magnification eyeglass system comprising:

a frame;

a headlight assembly configured to be attached to the frame, said headlight assembly comprising;

a housing containing therein;

at least one lighting element, and

at least one lens at a distal end of the housing wherein the at least one lighting element is positioned within the housing in line with an optical axis of the at least one lens, and

a battery assembly comprising;

a battery pod containing a battery therein, the battery configured to output a voltage; and

a lower assembly, physically attached to the housing on a first end and in contact with the battery pod on an opposite end, wherein the battery pod is removably attachable to the lower assembly, the lower assembly comprising;

a sensing element configured to;

transmit an infra-red (IR) signal; and

detect a reflection of the transmitted IR signal; and

an electronic circuit configured to;

receive an indication of the detected reflection of the transmitted IR signal;

receive a voltage from the battery; and

control an application of the voltage to the at least one lighting element based on a current state of the at least one lighting element in response to the received indication.

2. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 1, the lower assembly further comprising:

a ledge portion extending from the lower assembly, the ledge portion positioned at one of a front position and a side position of the lower assembly.

3. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 2, wherein the sensing element is incorporated onto a surface of the lower assembly.

4. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 2, wherein the sensing element is placed on a surface of the ledge portion.

5. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 2 wherein the sensing element is contained within the ledge portion.

6. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 5, wherein the ledge portion comprises an optically transparent window through which the signal is transmitted.

7. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 2, wherein the ledge portion is rotatable about a rotable hinge.

8. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 1, wherein the at least one lighting element comprises at least one light emitting diode selected from a group consisting of at least one of:

a white LED and a non-white LEDs.

9. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 1, wherein control of the application of the voltage to the at least one lighting element comprises one of:

removing the voltage from the at least one lighting element and applying the voltage to the at least one lighting element.

10. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 1, wherein the frame comprises a mounting mechanism and the headlight assembly comprises a matching mounting mechanism.

11. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 10, wherein the mounting mechanism is a “

T-slot”

connector.

12. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 10, wherein an orientation of the battery assembly with respect to the frame is determined by an orientation of the matching mounting mechanism.

13. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 1, further comprising:

a position detecting unit configured to;

determine an orientation of the eyeglass system;

output an orientation signal to the electronic circuit when the orientation of the eyeglass system is outside a desired orientation range, wherein the orientation signal is configured to;

cause the electronic circuit to remove the voltage applied to the at least one lighting element.

14. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 1, wherein the at least one lighting element comprises a first set of lighting elements and a second set of light elements.

15. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 14, wherein the voltage is applied to one of:

the first set of lighting elements and the second set of lighting elements.

16. The magnification eyeglass system of claim 14, further comprising:

means for positioning one of;

the first set of lighting elements and the second set of lighting elements in line with the optical axis.

17. A eyeglass system comprising:

a frame comprising;

two lens; and

a headlight assembly configured to be attached to the frame, said headlight assembly comprising;

a housing incorporating at least one lighting element therein and at least one lens positioned at a distal end of the housing, wherein an optical axis of the at least one lens is substantially centered within the housing; and

an assembly attached to the housing, the assembly comprising;

a battery configured to output a voltage; and

a lower assembly removably connectable to the battery and attached to the housing, the lower assembly comprising;

a sensing element configured to;

 

transmit a signal;

 

receive a reflection of the signal; and

 

generate an indication of the reflection;

an electronic circuit configured to;

 

receive the indication of the detected reflection of the transmitted signal; and

 

control an application of the voltage to the at least one lighting element based on the received indication in response to the received indication.

18. The eyeglass system of claim 17, wherein each of the lens includes a magnification device incorporated therein.

19. The eyeglass system of claim 17, further comprising:

a position orientation circuit configured to;

determine an orientation of the eyeglass system; and

generate an orientation signal to the electronic circuit when the determined orientation of the eyeglass system is outside a desired range, wherein the electronic circuit responsive to the orientation signal, inhibits application of the voltage to the least one lighting element.

20. The eyeglass system of claim 17, wherein the at least one light element comprises:

a first set of lighting elements and a second set of lighting elements, wherein the first set of lighting elements and the second set of lighting elements are mounted adjacent to each other on a printed circuit board.

21. The eyeglass system of claim 20, further comprising:

means for positioning one of the first set of lighting elements and the second set of lighting elements substantially centered within the housing.
