1. A method for presentation control of audio-only content, the method comprising:
- receiving, at a media device, media content that is currently received in a broadcasted media content stream;
receiving a first command from a remote control, wherein the command from the remote control is initiated in response to an actuation by a user of a first controller of the remote control, and wherein the first command is communicated from the remote control in response to a user actuating the first controller of the remote control that selects a channel in the broadcasted media content stream to be a currently received channel;
analyzing in response to receiving the first command from the remote control one of the media content stream and an electronic program guide (EPG) information to identify one of a first characteristic and a second characteristic, wherein the first characteristic is associated with audio/visual content and the second characteristic is associated with audio-only content;
determining, based on the identified one of the first characteristic and the second characteristic, whether the currently received channel is a type of channel that provides audio/visual content or a type of channel that provides audio-only content, wherein the currently received channel is determined to provide audio/visual content when the first characteristic is identified, and wherein the currently received channel is determined to provide audio-only content when the second characteristic is identified;
receiving a second command from the remote control after receiving the first command, wherein the second command is received after determining whether the type of channel provides audio/visual content or audio-only content, and wherein the second command is initiated in response to the user actuation of one of a second controller, a third controller and a fourth controller;
controlling presentation of the received media content using at least one audio/visual content control function associated with the controller of the remote control that was actuated by the user and in response to determining that the currently received channel is the type of channel that provides audio/visual content, wherein controlling presentation of the audio/visual content comprises;
performing a first audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the second controller;
performing a second audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the third controller,performing a third audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the fourth controller,wherein the first audio/visual content trick function operation, the second audio/visual content trick function operation and the third audio/visual content trick function operation are different audio/visual content trick function operations; and
controlling presentation of the received media content using at least one audio-only content control function associated with the controller of the remote control that was actuated by the user and in response to determining that the currently received channel is the type of channel that provides audio-only content, wherein controlling presentation of the audio-only content comprises;
performing a skip track forward operation that advances presentation from a currently presenting song to a next song in the broadcasted media content stream when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the second controller;
performing a skip track backward operation that rewinds presentation from the currently presenting song to a previously presented song in the broadcasted media content stream when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the third controller,performing a return to song beginning operation that returns presentation of the currently presenting song to a beginning of the currently presenting song when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the fourth controller.

Systems and methods control presentation of audio-only content that is broadcast to a media device. An exemplary embodiment receives media content that is currently received in a channel of a broadcasted media content stream; determines whether the currently received channel is a type of channel that provides audio/visual content or a type of channel that provides audio-only content; controls presentation of the received media content using at least one audio/visual content control function in response to determining that the currently received channel is the type of channel that provides audio/visual content; controls presentation of the received media content using at least one audio-only content control function in response to determining that the currently received channel is the type of channel that provides audio-only content, wherein the at least one audio/visual content control function is different from the at least one audio-only content control function.

1. A method for presentation control of audio-only content, the method comprising:

receiving, at a media device, media content that is currently received in a broadcasted media content stream; receiving a first command from a remote control, wherein the command from the remote control is initiated in response to an actuation by a user of a first controller of the remote control, and wherein the first command is communicated from the remote control in response to a user actuating the first controller of the remote control that selects a channel in the broadcasted media content stream to be a currently received channel; analyzing in response to receiving the first command from the remote control one of the media content stream and an electronic program guide (EPG) information to identify one of a first characteristic and a second characteristic, wherein the first characteristic is associated with audio/visual content and the second characteristic is associated with audio-only content; determining, based on the identified one of the first characteristic and the second characteristic, whether the currently received channel is a type of channel that provides audio/visual content or a type of channel that provides audio-only content, wherein the currently received channel is determined to provide audio/visual content when the first characteristic is identified, and wherein the currently received channel is determined to provide audio-only content when the second characteristic is identified; receiving a second command from the remote control after receiving the first command, wherein the second command is received after determining whether the type of channel provides audio/visual content or audio-only content, and wherein the second command is initiated in response to the user actuation of one of a second controller, a third controller and a fourth controller; controlling presentation of the received media content using at least one audio/visual content control function associated with the controller of the remote control that was actuated by the user and in response to determining that the currently received channel is the type of channel that provides audio/visual content, wherein controlling presentation of the audio/visual content comprises; performing a first audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the second controller; performing a second audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the third controller, performing a third audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the fourth controller, wherein the first audio/visual content trick function operation, the second audio/visual content trick function operation and the third audio/visual content trick function operation are different audio/visual content trick function operations; and controlling presentation of the received media content using at least one audio-only content control function associated with the controller of the remote control that was actuated by the user and in response to determining that the currently received channel is the type of channel that provides audio-only content, wherein controlling presentation of the audio-only content comprises; performing a skip track forward operation that advances presentation from a currently presenting song to a next song in the broadcasted media content stream when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the second controller; performing a skip track backward operation that rewinds presentation from the currently presenting song to a previously presented song in the broadcasted media content stream when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the third controller, performing a return to song beginning operation that returns presentation of the currently presenting song to a beginning of the currently presenting song when the second command from the remote control was received after the user actuation of the fourth controller. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7)

8. A media device, comprising:

a tuner, wherein the tuner is operable to receive a stream of broadcasted media content that comprises one of audio/visual content and audio-only content, and wherein the media content is associated with a channel that identifies a source of the media content; a remote interface operable to receive a first command from a remote control, wherein the first command is communicated from the remote control in response to a user actuating a first controller of the remote control that selects the channel, wherein the remote interface is further operable to receive a second command from the remote control after receiving the first command, and wherein the second command is initiated in response to the user actuating one of a second controller, a third controller and a fourth controller of the remote control; a program buffer, wherein the program buffer is operable to store the received media content, wherein the program buffer is further operable to stream out the received media content in a continuous uninterrupted stream to a media content presentation system, and wherein the media content presentation system is operable to present a video content portion of the media content on a display and present an audio portion of the media content from at least one sound reproducing device; and a processor system communicatively coupled to the tuner, the remote interface and the program buffer, wherein the processor system is operable to; analyze one of the media content stream and an electronic program guide (EPG) information to identify one of a first characteristic and a second characteristic, wherein the first characteristic is associated with audio/visual content and the second characteristic is associated with audio-only content; determine, based on the identified one of the first characteristic and the second characteristic, whether the currently received channel is a type of channel that provides audio/visual content or a type of channel that provides audio-only content, wherein the currently received channel is determined to provide audio/visual content when the first characteristic is identified, and wherein the currently received channel is determined to provide audio-only content when the second characteristic is identified; and control presentation of the received media content using at least one audio/visual content control function associated with the controller of the remote control that was actuated by the user and in response to determining that the currently received channel is the type of channel that provides audio/visual content; and control presentation of the received media content using at least one audio-only content control function associated with the controller of the remote control that was actuated by the user and in response to determining that the currently received channel is the type of channel that provides audio-only content, wherein when the audio/visual content is presented, the processor system is further operable to; perform a first audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control is received in response to the user actuation of the second controller; perform a second audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control is received in response to the user actuation of the third controller, perform a third audio/visual content trick function operation when the second command from the remote control is received in response to the user actuation of the fourth controller, wherein the first audio/visual content trick function operation, the second audio/visual content trick function operation and the third audio/visual content trick function operation are different audio/visual content trick function operations, and wherein when the audio-only content is presented, the processor system is further operable to; perform a skip track forward operation that advances presentation from a currently presenting song to a next song in the broadcasted media content stream when the second command from the remote control is received in response to the user actuation of the second controller; perform a skip track backward operation that rewinds presentation from the currently presenting song to a previously presented song in the broadcasted media content stream when the second command from the remote control is received in response to the user actuation of the third controller, perform a return to song beginning operation that returns presentation of the currently presenting song to a beginning of the currently presenting song when the second command from the remote control is received in response to the user actuation of the fourth controller. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)

15. A media presentation system, comprising:

a media device, wherein the media device is operable to; receive a stream of broadcasted media content that comprises one of audio/visual content and audio-only content, store the received media content in a program buffer, wherein the program buffer is further operable to stream out the received media content in a continuous uninterrupted stream to a media content presentation system that is operable to present a video content portion of the media content on a display and present an audio portion of the media content from at least one sound reproducing device, and determine whether the currently received media content is the audio/visual content or is the audio-only content; and a remote control, wherein the remote control is operable to; analyze one of an identifier associated with the currently received media content stream and an electronic program guide (EPG) information to identify one of a first characteristic and a second characteristic, wherein the first characteristic is associated with audio/visual content and the second characteristic is associated with audio-only content; determine, based on the identified one of the first characteristic and the second characteristic, whether the currently received channel is a type of channel that provides audio/visual content or a type of channel that provides audio-only content, wherein the currently received channel is determined to provide audio/visual content when the first characteristic is identified, and wherein the currently received channel is determined to provide audio-only content when the second characteristic is identified; and communicate a first command in response to user actuation of a first controller of the remote control, wherein the first command is communicated from the remote control in response to a user actuating the first controller of the remote control to select the currently received channel for presentation by the media device, communicate a second command after receiving the first command, and wherein the second command is initiated in response to the user actuating one of a second controller, a third controller and a fourth controller of the remote control; wherein the actuated second controller of the remote control has a first predefined trick function operation that controls presentation of the received media content in accordance with a first operation when the currently received media content is the audio/visual content, wherein the actuated third controller of the remote control has a second predefined trick function operation that controls presentation of the received media content in accordance with a second operation when the currently received media content is the audio/visual content, wherein the actuated fourth controller of the remote control has a third predefined trick function operation that controls presentation of the received media content in accordance with a third operation when the currently received media content is the audio/visual content, wherein the first predefined trick function operation, the second predefined trick function operation and the third predefined trick function operation are different audio/visual content presentation operations, wherein the actuated second controller of the remote control has a skip track forward operation that advances presentation from a currently presenting song to a next song in the broadcasted media content stream when the currently received media content is the audio-only content, wherein the actuated third controller of the remote control has a skip track backward operation that rewinds presentation from the currently presenting song to a previously presented song in the broadcasted media content stream when the currently received media content is the audio-only content, and wherein the actuated fourth controller of the remote control has a return to song beginning operation that returns presentation of the currently presenting song to a beginning of the currently presenting song when the currently received media content is the audio-only content.
