1. An autonomous driving system of a vehicle, the autonomous driving system comprising:

  • a first display configured to provide an indicator identifying whether the autonomous driving system is engaged in an autonomous mode;

    a second display configure to display navigation functionality of the autonomous driving system;

    an object detection system configured to detect object information of one or more objects in proximity to the vehicle, the object detection system including at least one of a laser, a camera, radar and sonar;

    a vehicle control system configured to control one or more of braking, acceleration, steering and signaling of the vehicle while in the autonomous mode;

    a user input device configured to receive input regarding the autonomous mode; and

    one or more processors operatively coupled to the first display, the second display, the object detection system, the vehicle navigation system, and the user input device, the one or more processors being configured to;

    receive detected object information of the one or more objects from the object detection system;

    identify a position and speed of a given one of the one or more objects relative to a current position and speed of the vehicle based on the received detected object information;

    generate a notification image corresponding to one or more peripheral areas external to the vehicle;

    update the notification image by modifying at least one peripheral area of the notification image when a first threshold condition of the identified position and speed of the given object relative to the current position and speed of the vehicle is met;

    cause the updated notification image to be displayed on either the first display or the second display;

    generate a warning indicator for the given object when a second threshold condition of the identified position and speed of the given object relative to the current position and speed of the vehicle is met; and

    cause the updated notification image and the warning indicator to be displayed on either the first display or the second display, the warning indicator being displayed separate from the updated notification image.
