Abstract

A system is provided for generating a data file from an entered search term, comprising: a processor and a memory configured to store instructions executable by the processor. The memory comprises: a shape generation module for generating one or more shape values; and a data file generation module comprising instructions for converting the one or more shape values into a wave shape data file format exportable to the customer. The system further comprises a network input/output interface coupled to the processor and the memory through which the customer accesses the shape generation module.

Claims

1. A system for searching, writing, editing, and publishing waveform shape information, the system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory configured to store instructions executable by the processor, comprising;

a shape code value generator for providing a shape code value from a search term, the shape code value defining a wave shape by a plurality of breakpoints, each break point comprising a pair of coordinates and an interpolation value, the pair of coordinates defining the position of the break point and the interpolation value defining the path from a break point to a succeeding break point; and

a shape data file generator for generating a shape data file from the shape code value and for publishing the shape data file;

whereby waveform signals are provided from the shape data file by a waveform signal generator.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the shape code value generator is configured for:

parsing the search term;

determining a format of the parsed search term;

extracting one or more shape code values of xValues, yValues, and iValues from the parsed search term; and

generating a wave shape from each shape code value.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein parsing the search term comprises:

removing from the search term all characters that are not numbers, letters, commas, or spaces; and

removing leading and trailing spaces.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein determining the format of the parsed search term comprises:

a) considering each character of the parsed search term to be a yValue if there are no commas or spaces in the parsed search term and if all of the characters in the parsed search term are numeric, xValues and iValues being defaulted;

b) considering the format of the parsed search term to be in an “

xyi”

format if there are no commas or spaces in the parsed search term and if the parsed search term has a pattern of “

[N]AANAA . . . NAA”

;

c) considering the parsed search term to be in an “

xy”

format if there are no commas or spaces in the parsed search term and if the parsed search term does not have a pattern of “

[N]AANAA . . . NAA”

, omitted xValues and iValues being defaulted;

d) if there are commas in the parsed search term and all of the characters delimited by the commas are numeric, the characters are considered to represent yValues, and xValues and iValues are defaulted;

e) considering the parsed search term to be in a “

yi”

format if there is a single comma in the parsed search term, not all of the delimited characters delimited are numeric, there are no spaces in a first part of the parsed search term, and the characters in the first part of the parsed search term are all numeric or all alpha;

f) considering the parsed search term to be in an “

xy,i”

format if there is a single comma in the parsed search term, not all of the delimited characters are numeric, there are no spaces in the first part of the parsed search term, and the characters in the first part of the parsed search term are not all numeric or not all alpha;

g) considering the first part of the parsed search term to be space delimited yValues if there is a single comma in the parsed search term, not all of the delimited characters are numeric, there are spaces in the first part of the parsed search term, and all of the characters in the first part of the parsed search term are numeric;

h) considering that each delimited value to be in an “

xy”

format if there is a single comma in the parsed search term, not all of the delimited characters are numeric, there are spaces in the first part of the parsed search term, and not all of the characters in the first part of the parsed search term are numeric, omitted xValues, omitted yValues, and iValues being defaulted;

i) considering the parsed search term to be in an “

x,y,i”

format if there are two commas in the parsed search term and not all of the delimited characters are numeric;

j) considering that each delimited value is a yValue if there are more than two commas in the parsed search term and all of the delimited characters are alpha, xValues and iValues being defaulted;

k) considering the parsed search term to be in an “

x,y”

format if there are more than two commas in the parsed search term and not all of the delimited characters are alpha, omitted xValues, omitted yValues, and iValues being defaulted;

l) if there are spaces and no commas in the parsed search term and all of the characters delimited by the spaces are numeric, considering each delimited character to be a yValue, and xValues and iValues are defaulted;

m) if there are spaces and no commas in the parsed search term and all of the characters delimited by the spaces are alpha, considering each delimited character to be a yValue, and xValues and iValues are defaulted; and

n) if there are spaces and no commas in the parsed search term and not all of the characters delimited by the spaces are alpha, considering each delimited character to be in an “

xy”

format, omitted xValues, omitted yValues, and iValues being defaulted.

5. The system of claim 1, further comprising a wave editor module for displaying a selected wave shape, receiving parameters entered by the customer, and editing the wave shape in accordance with the entered parameters.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the wave editor module is further configured for:

receiving input from the customer to move a breakpoint of the wave shape;

receiving input from the customer to delete a breakpoint of the wave shape;

receiving input from the customer to add a new breakpoint to the wave shape at received coordinates; and

receiving input from the customer to change an interpolation method defining a path between adjacent breakpoints of the wave shape.

7. The system of claim 1, further comprising a wave page module, configured for displaying a page of generated wave shapes, each wave shape being defined by a location in a book of wave shapes.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the wave page module is further configured for:

a) receiving a list of xValues, a list of yValues, a list of iValues, a full scale yValue FSy, a PRC (page, row, column) mapping function, a number of rows (numRows) to be generated, a number of columns (numCols) to be generated, values of a first row and a last row (firstRowValue, lastRowValue), values of a first column and a last column (firstColValue, lastColValue), and row and column offset values;

b) beginning an outer loop;

c) for each row, calculating;

9. The system of claim 1, further comprising a shape writer module, configured for:

receiving one or more sets of coordinates from the customer, each set representing a breakpoint of the wave shape;

generating the wave shape; and

displaying the wave shape.

10. A method for searching, writing, editing, and publishing waveform shape information, the system comprising:

in a shape code value generator, providing a shape code value from a search term, the shape code value defining a wave shape by a plurality of breakpoints, each break point comprising a pair of coordinates and an interpolation value, the pair of coordinates defining the position of the break point and the interpolation value defining the path from a break point to a succeeding break point; and

in a shape data file generator;

generating a shape data file from the shape code value and for publishing the shape data file; and

providing waveform signals from the shape data file.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising in the shape code value generator:

parsing the search term;

determining a format of the parsed search term;

extracting one or more shape code values of xValues, yValues, and iValues from the parsed search term; and

generating a wave shape from each shape code value.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein parsing the search term comprises:

removing from the search term all characters that are not numbers, letters, commas, or spaces; and

removing leading and trailing spaces.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein determining the format of the parsed search term comprises:

a) considering each character of the parsed search term to be a yValue if there are no commas or spaces in the parsed search term and if all of the characters in the parsed search term are numeric, xValues and iValues being defaulted;

b) considering the format of the parsed search term to be in an “

format if there are more than two commas in the parsed search term and not all of the delimited characters are alpha, omitted xValues, omitted yValues, and iValues being defaulted;

l) if there are spaces and no commas in the parsed search term and all of the characters delimited by the spaces are numeric, considering each delimited character to be a yValue, and xValues and iValues are defaulted;

m) if there are spaces and no commas in the parsed search term and all of the characters delimited by the spaces are alpha, considering each delimited character to be a yValue, and xValues and iValues are defaulted; and

n) if there are spaces and no commas in the parsed search term and not all of the characters delimited by the spaces are alpha, considering each delimited character to be in an “

xy”

format, omitted xValues, omitted yValues, and iValues being defaulted.

14. The method of claim 10, further comprising in a wave editor module, displaying a selected wave shape, receiving parameters entered by the customer, and editing the wave shape in accordance with the entered parameters.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising in the wave editor module:

receiving input from the customer to move a breakpoint of the wave shape;

receiving input from the customer to delete a breakpoint of the wave shape;

receiving input from the customer to add a new breakpoint to the wave shape at received coordinates; and

receiving input from the customer to change an interpolation method defining a path between adjacent breakpoints of the wave shape.

16. The method of claim 10, further comprising in a wave page module displaying a page of generated wave shapes, each wave shape being defined by a location in a book of wave shapes.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising in the wave page module:

a) receiving a list of xValues, a list of yValues, a list of iValues, a full scale yValue FSy, a PRC (page, row, column) mapping function, a number of rows (numRows) to be generated, a number of columns (numCols) to be generated, values of a first row and a last row (firstRowValue, lastRowValue), values of a first column and a last column (firstColValue, lastColValue), and row and column offset values;

b) beginning an outer loop;

c) for each row, calculating;

18. The method of claim 10, further comprising in a shape writer module:

receiving one or more sets of coordinates from the customer, each set representing a breakpoint of the wave shape;

generating the wave shape; and

displaying the wave shape.
