Abstract

A method for transmitting an 802.11ah packet is provided. A training field sequence is generated using control circuitry. A preamble for a packet is generated using the control circuitry. The preamble includes a training field symbol which includes the training field sequence. A portion of the training field sequence is within a plurality of guard tones of the training field symbol. The preamble is transmitted using transmit circuitry.

Claims

1. A method for transmitting a wireless packet, the method comprising:

generating, using control circuitry, a signaling field including parameters for decoding the wireless packet for a first bandwidth, wherein the signaling field sequence has a first number count of tones that is less than a number count of tones in a training field sequence that includes channel estimation information;

generating, using the control circuitry, a signaling field sequence, for a second bandwidth, that is a multiple of the first bandwidth, by transmitting the signaling field sequence for the first bandwidth in each of a plurality of sub-bands, wherein generating the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth comprises generating a copy of the signaling field sequence for the first bandwidth, phase rotating the copy of signaling field sequence and transmitting the phase-rotated copy of the signaling field sequence in each of the plurality of sub-bands;

generating, using the control circuitry, a preamble for a packet, wherein the preamble comprises the training field sequence and the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth, and wherein the training field sequence for the first bandwidth is scaled to have a same power per tone as the training field sequence for the second bandwidth; and

transmitting, using transmit circuitry, the preamble.

The method of claim 1, wherein generating a copy of the signaling field sequence for the first bandwidth, phase rotating the copy of signaling field sequence and transmitting the phase-rotated copy of the signaling field sequence in each of the plurality of sub-bands causes tones in the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth, that is a multiple of the first bandwidth, to increase in number count from the first number count of tones to a second number count of tones that is larger than the first number count.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein generating a signaling field sequence comprises generating a number count of tones providing configuration parameters of the wireless packet.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein generating a signaling field sequence for a second bandwidth comprises generating a second number count of tones in the signaling field sequence, wherein the second number count of tones is equal to the number count of tones in the training field sequence.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein generating a signaling field sequence for a second bandwidth comprises generating the second number count of tones in the signaling field sequence, wherein the second number count of tones is less than the number count of tones in the training field sequence.

6. The method of claim 3, wherein generating a signaling field sequence for a second bandwidth comprises generating the second number count of tones such that each tone in the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth has a corresponding tone among the number count of tones in the training field sequence.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein generating a signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth further comprises identifying for removal, using the control circuitry, selected tones among the first number count of tones in the signaling field sequence for the first bandwidth.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein identifying for removal selected tones comprises identifying reserve bits and identification information for removal.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein identifying reserve bits and identification information for removal comprises identifying for removal Partial Association Identification (PAID) bits used to identify a wireless station.

10. An apparatus for transmitting a wireless packet, the apparatus comprising:

field generation circuitry configured to;

generate a signaling field sequence including parameters for decoding the wireless packet for a first bandwidth, wherein the signaling field sequence has a first number count of tones that is less than a number count of tones in a training field sequence that includes channel estimation information; and

generate a signaling field sequence for a second bandwidth, that is a multiple of the first bandwidth, by transmitting the signaling field sequence for the first bandwidth in each of a plurality of sub-bands, wherein generating the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth comprises generating a copy of the signaling field sequence for the first bandwidth, phase-rotating the copy of the signaling field sequence and transmitting the phase-rotated copy of the signaling field sequence in each of the plurality of sub-bands;

preamble generation circuitry configured to generate a preamble for a packet, wherein the preamble comprises the training field sequence and the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth, and wherein the training field sequence for the first bandwidth is scaled to have a same power per tone as the training field sequence for the second bandwidth; and

transmit circuitry configured to transmit the preamble.

The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the preamble generation circuitry is configured to cause tones in the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth, that is a multiple of the first bandwidth, to increase in number count from the first number count of tones to a second number count of tones that is larger than the first number count, by generating a copy of the signaling field sequence for the first bandwidth, phase rotating the copy of signaling field sequence and transmitting the phase-rotated copy of the signaling field sequence in each of the plurality of sub-bands.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the field generation circuitry is configured to generate the first number count of tones in the signaling field sequence to provide configuration parameters of the wireless packet.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the field generation circuitry is configured to generate the second number count of tones in the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth such that the second number count of tones is equal to the number count of tones in the training field sequence.

14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the field generation circuitry is configured to generate the second number count of tones in the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth such that the second number count of tones is less than the number count of tones in the training field sequence.

The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the field generation circuitry is configured to generate the second number count of tones in the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth such that each tone in the signaling field sequence for the second bandwidth has a corresponding tone among the number count of tones in the training field sequence.

16. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the field generation circuitry is further configured to identify for removal selected tones among the first number count of tones in the signaling field sequence for the first bandwidth.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the field generation circuitry is configured to select tones for removal that comprise reserve bits and identification information.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the field generation circuitry is configured to select tones for removal that include Partial Association Identification (PAID) bits used to identify a wireless station.
