Abstract

A dual-mode, dual-display shared resource computing (SRC) device is usable to stream SRC content from a host SRC device while in an on-line mode and maintain functionality with the content during an off-line mode. Such remote SRC devices can be used to maintain multiple user-specific caches and to back-up cached content for multi-device systems.

Claims

1. One or more computer-readable storage media storing executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:

receiving, at a host device, first cache content transmitted from a first device associated with a first user, wherein the host device receives the first cache content from the first device in response to the first device changing from a low-power mode to a full-power mode;

storing, in a first user-specific memory cache of the host device, the first cache content of the first device associated with the first user;

determining when one or more additional devices are associated with the first user; and

transmitting the first cache content to the one or more additional devices associated with the first user.

2. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 1, the acts further comprising:

receiving second cache content transmitted from a second device associated with a second user, the second user being different from the first user; and

storing, in a second user-specific memory cache of the host device, the second cache content of the second device associated with the second user, the second user-specific memory cache being different from the first user-specific memory cache.

3. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 1, wherein the first cache content comprises updated content previously streamed from the host device to the first device during a previous session of the first user on the first device.

4. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 1, the acts further comprising:

receiving second cache content from the first device;

determining that the first device is logged in by a second user different from the first user; and

in response to determining that the first device is logged in by a second user different from the first user, storing the second cache content in a second user-specific memory cache of the host device, the second user-specific memory cache being different from the first user-specific memory cache.

5. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 1, wherein changing from the low-power mode to the full-power mode includes changing from use of a low-power, low refresh-rate display on the first device to use of a high refresh rate-display on the first device.

6. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 1, wherein the low-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device uses an electronic ink display and the full-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device uses at least one of a liquid crystal display (“

LCD”

), light emitting diode (“

LED”

) display, and an organic light emitting diode (“

OLED”

) display.

7. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 1, wherein the low-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device is not connected to a network, and the full-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device is connected to the network.

8. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 1, wherein storing the first cache content comprises storing the first cache content in the first user-specific memory cache for a predetermined period of time to enable transmitting the first cache content to one or more new devices added by the first user after the storing.

9. A method implemented by a host device, the method comprising:

receiving first cache content transmitted from a first device associated with a first user, wherein the host device receives the first cache content from the first device in response to the first device changing from a low-power mode to a full-power mode;

storing the first cache content of the first device associated with the first user in a first user-specific memory cache of the host device;

determining when one or more additional devices are associated with the first user; and

transmitting the first cache content to the one or more additional devices associated with the first user.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving second cache content transmitted from a second device associated with a second user, the second user being different from the first user; and

storing, in a second user-specific memory cache of the host device, the second cache content of the second device associated with the second user, the second user-specific memory cache being different from the first user-specific memory cache.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the first cache content comprises updated content previously streamed from the host device to the first device during a previous session of the first user on the first device.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving second cache content from the first device;

determining that the first device is logged in by a second user different from the first user; and

in response to determining that the first device is logged in by a second user different from the first user, storing the second cache content in a second user-specific memory cache of the host device, the second user-specific memory cache being different from the first user-specific memory cache.

13. The method of claim 9, wherein changing from the low-power mode to the full-power mode includes changing from use of a low-power, low refresh-rate display on the first device to use of a high refresh rate-display on the first device.

14. The method of claim 9, wherein the low-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device uses an electronic ink display and the full-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device uses at least one of a liquid crystal display (“

LCD”

), light emitting diode (“

LED”

) display, and an organic light emitting diode (“

OLED”

) display.

15. The method of claim 9, wherein the low-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device is not connected to a network, and the full-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device is connected to the network.

16. The method of claim 9, wherein storing the first cache content comprises storing the first cache content in the first user-specific memory cache for a predetermined period of time to enable transmitting the first cache content to one or more new devices added by the first user after the storing.

17. A computing device comprising:

one or more processors;

memory storing executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising;

receiving first cache content transmitted from a first device associated with a first user, wherein the computing device receives the first cache content from the first device in response to the first device changing from a low-power mode to a full-power mode;

storing the first cache content of the first device associated with the first user in a first user-specific memory cache;

determining when one or more additional devices are associated with the first user; and

transmitting the cache content to the one or more additional devices associated with the first user.

18. The computing device of claim 17, the acts further comprising:

receiving second cache content from the first device;

determining that the first device is logged in by a second user different from the first user; and

in response to determining that the first device is logged in by a second user different from the first user, storing the second cache content in a second user-specific memory cache of the host device, the second user-specific memory cache being different from the first user-specific memory cache.

19. The computing device of claim 17, wherein changing from the low-power mode to the full-power mode includes changing from use of a low-power, low refresh-rate display on the first device to use of a high refresh rate-display on the first device.

20. The computing device of claim 17, wherein the low-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device uses an electronic ink display and the full-power mode comprises a mode in which the first device uses at least one of a liquid crystal display (“

LCD”

), light emitting diode (“

LED”

) display, and an organic light emitting diode (“

OLED”

) display.
