1. A programmable keypad for controlling light emitting diode (LED) illumination devices, comprising:
- a first pair of buttons programmable to increase and decrease brightness among a first plurality of LED illumination devices arranged within a first zone of a structure;
a second pair of buttons programmable to increase and decrease brightness among the first plurality of LED illumination devices as well as among a second plurality of LED illumination devices arranged within a second zone of the structure, wherein the first plurality of LED illumination devices within the first zone and the second plurality of LED illumination devices within the second zone combine to form an illumination scene whose said first and second plurality of LED illumination devices are adapted for control of color temperature thereof as a function of brightness;
a fourth pair of buttons programmable to increase and decrease color temperature among the first and second plurality of LED illumination devices within the illumination scene;
a fifth pair of buttons programmable to increase and decrease brightness among the second plurality of LED illumination devices;
wherein in response to at least one of the first pair of buttons being depressed, the programmable keypad is configured to adjust the brightness to preset a first zone brightness value among the first plurality of LED illumination devices;
wherein in response to at least one of the fifth pair of buttons being depressed, the programmable keypad is configured to adjust the brightness to preset a second zone brightness value among the second plurality of LED illumination devices; and
wherein in response to the second pair of buttons being simultaneously depressed, the programmable keypad is configured to store the preset first and second zone brightness values.

Abstract
An illumination system and method is provided for readily mapping a plurality of scenes along a dimcurve form a natural show for one or more groups of LED illumination devices. Mapping can be performed using a graphical user interface on a remote controller wirelessly linked to the illumination devices. A keypad is preferably configured for button control of changes to color temperature as a function of brightness along each of the various dimcurves for each of the various groups of illumination devices controlled by a corresponding keypad to allow momentary or persistent override and reprogram of the natural show. Modification to a scene further comprises modifications to scenes before and after the currently modified scene to provide a smoothing dimcurve modification. Global keypad can be used to control multiple zones arranged throughout a structure to switch between a natural show that emulates outdoor sunlight conditions to a panic show when an intruder is detected.

5. A method for programming control of a first and second plurality of light emitting diode (LED) illumination devices assigned to a keypad, the keypad comprising a plurality of buttons, the method comprising:

providing a remote controller having a graphical user interface (GUI) that is remote from and wirelessly coupled to the first and second plurality of LED illumination devices and the keypad; assigning on the GUI the first plurality of LED illumination devices to a first zone and the second plurality of LED illumination devices to a second zone; assigning the first zone to a first portion of the keypad that is coupled to a first gang of a two-gang switchbox and assigning the second zone to a second portion of the keypad that is coupled to a second gang of the two-gang switchbox; creating on the GUI a plurality of scenes, each of which controls the color temperature as a function of brightness and time of day for the first and second plurality of LED illumination devices; and grouping on the GUI a timed sequence of scenes from among the plurality of scenes to form a natural show along a first dimcurve having a higher color temperature substantially near a midpoint in time between sunrise and sunset. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13)
