Abstract

A waveguide device includes a first electrically conductive member having a first electrically conductive surface; a second electrically conductive member having a second electrically conductive surface which opposes the first electrically conductive surface; and a ridge-shaped waveguide member on the second electrically conductive member. The second electrically conductive member has a throughhole which splits the waveguide member into first and second ridges. The first and second ridges each have an electrically conductive end face, the end faces opposing each other via the throughhole. The opposing end faces and the throughhole together define a hollow waveguide. The hollow waveguide is connected to a first waveguide extending between the waveguide face of the first ridge and the first electrically conductive surface, and to a second waveguide extending between the waveguide face of the second ridge and the first electrically conductive surface.

Claims

1. A waveguide device comprising:

a first electrically conductive member having a first electrically conductive surface;

a second electrically conductive member having a second electrically conductive surface which opposes the first electrically conductive surface; and

a ridge-shaped waveguide member on the second electrically conductive member, the waveguide member having an electrically conductive waveguide face which extends along the first electrically conductive surface so as to oppose the first electrically conductive surface,

wherein,

the second electrically conductive member has a throughhole;

the waveguide member is split by the throughhole into a first ridge and a second ridge;

the first ridge and the second ridge each have an electrically conductive end face, the end faces opposing each other via the throughhole;

the opposing end faces of the first and second ridges and the throughhole together define a hollow waveguide;

the hollow waveguide is connected to a first waveguide extending between the waveguide face of the first ridge and the first electrically conductive surface, and to a second waveguide extending between the waveguide face of the second ridge and the first electrically conductive surface; and

a length of the first waveguide and a length of the second waveguide are each longer than a distance between the first electrically conductive surface and the second electrically conductive surface.

2. The waveguide device of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of electrically conductive rods disposed on one side or both sides of the waveguide member, wherein

each of the plurality of electrically conductive rods has a leading end opposing the first electrically conductive surface and a root connected to the second electrically conductive surface.

The waveguide device of claim 2, wherein the length of the first waveguide and the length of the second waveguide are each equal to or greater than twice a length from the root to the leading end of an electrically conductive rod among the plurality of electrically conductive rods that is adjacent to the waveguide member.

4. The waveguide device of claim 2, wherein,

the waveguide device is used for at least one of transmission and reception of an electromagnetic wave of a predetermined band;

and

a width of the waveguide member, a width of an electrically conductive rod which is adjacent to the waveguide member, a width of a space between the electrically conductive rod and the waveguide member, and a distance from the root of the electrically conductive rod to the first electrically conductive surface are all less than λ

m/2, where λ

m is a wavelength, in free space, of an electromagnetic wave of a highest frequency among electromagnetic waves of the predetermined band.

5. The waveguide device of claim 3, wherein,

the waveguide device is used for at least one of transmission and reception of an electromagnetic wave of a predetermined band;

and

a width of the waveguide member, a width of an electrically conductive rod which is adjacent to the waveguide member, a width of a space between the electrically conductive rod and the waveguide member, and a distance from the root of the electrically conductive rod to the first electrically conductive surface are all less than λ

m/2, where λ

m is a wavelength, in free space, of an electromagnetic wave of a highest frequency among electromagnetic waves of the predetermined band.

6. A slot antenna comprising:

the waveguide device of claim 1, wherein

the first electrically conductive member has at least one slot that is coupled to the first waveguide or the second waveguide.

7. A slot antenna comprising:

the waveguide device of claim 2, wherein

the first electrically conductive member has at least one slot that is coupled to the first waveguide or the second waveguide.

8. A slot antenna comprising:

the waveguide device of claim 3, wherein

the first electrically conductive member has at least one slot that is coupled to the first waveguide or the second waveguide.

9. A slot antenna comprising:

the waveguide device of claim 4, wherein

the first electrically conductive member has at least one slot that is coupled to the first waveguide or the second waveguide.

10. A slot antenna comprising:

the waveguide device of claim 5, wherein

the first electrically conductive member has at least one slot that is coupled to the first waveguide or the second waveguide.

11. The slot antenna of claim 6, wherein,

the at least one slot has two slots which are adjacent along a direction that the waveguide member extends;

and

the throughhole is between the two slots.

12. The slot antenna of claim 10, wherein,

the at least one slot has two slots which are adjacent along a direction that the waveguide member extends;

and

the throughhole is between the two slots.

13. The slot antenna of claim 11, wherein the throughhole is at a midpoint between the two slots.

14. The slot antenna of claim 12, wherein the throughhole is at a midpoint between the two slots.

15. The slot antenna of claim 11, wherein, in a plan view projected along an axis of the throughhole, a distance between a center of the throughhole and a midpoint between the two slots is smaller than a distance between the opposing end faces.

16. The slot antenna of claim 12, wherein, in a plan view projected along an axis of the throughhole, a distance between a center of the throughhole and a midpoint between the two slots is smaller than a distance between the opposing end faces.

17. The slot antenna of claim 11, wherein,

the at least one slot includes one or more other slots in addition to the two slots;

and

the two slots and the one or more other slots are disposed at equal intervals along the direction that the waveguide member extends, or so that a distance between centers of any two adjacent slots among them differs only by amounts that are smaller than a distance between the opposing end faces.

18. The slot antenna of claim 12, wherein,

the at least one slot includes one or more other slots in addition to the two slots;

and

the two slots and the one or more other slots are disposed at equal intervals along the direction that the waveguide member extends, or so that a distance between centers of any two adjacent slots among them differs only by amounts that are smaller than a distance between the opposing end faces.

19. A radar comprising:

the slot array antenna of claim 6; and

a microwave integrated circuit that is connected to the slot array antenna.

20. A radar comprising:

the slot array antenna of claim 11; and

a microwave integrated circuit that is connected to the slot array antenna.
