Abstract

Systems and methods for a continuous monitoring of analyte values received from an analyte sensor system are provided. One method for a wireless data communication between an analyte sensor system and a mobile device involves storing identification information associated with a transceiver of the analyte sensor system, the identification information entered by a user of the mobile device via a custom application running on the mobile device; causing the custom application to enter a background mode; searching for advertisement signals; receiving an advertisement signal from the transceiver; authenticating the transceiver based on the identification information; prompting the user to bring the custom application to a foreground mode; causing the custom application to request a confirmation from the user that a data connection with the transceiver is desired; receiving the confirmation from the user; and completing the data connection with the transceiver.

Claims

1. A method for wireless data communication among an analyte sensor system, a passive device for receiving data from a transceiver without establishing a data connection with the analyte sensor system, and an active display device for displaying analyte data from the analyte sensor system after establishing a data connection with the analyte sensor system, the method comprising:

generating analyte sensor data using a sensor electronics module coupled to a continuous analyte sensor of the analyte sensor system;

incorporating in a first advertisement signal the analyte sensor data that can be used by the passive device;

a user providing the passive device with an identification information associated with the analyte sensor system;

the passive device generating a key using the identification information;

upon receiving the first advertisement signal from the analyte sensor system, extracting the analyte sensor data by the passive device from the first advertisement signal, to perform one or more medicament delivery operations based on an analyte value that is indicated by the extracted analyte sensor data, wherein the passive device extracts the analyte sensor data from the first advertisement signal using the key generated from the identification information associated with the analyte sensor system;

receiving, by the active display device, a second advertisement signal, wherein the analyte sensor system is configured to include the analyte sensor data in the second advertisement signal;

establishing a two-way communication channel by the active display device with the analyte sensor system in response to the second advertisement signal;

exchanging information including the analyte sensor data, alarms, alert and calibration data between the active display device and the analyte sensor system via the established communication channel;

terminating the communication channel; and

displaying the analyte sensor data by the active display device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyte value is an encoded analyte value.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the extraction further includes decoding the encoded analyte value utilizing the identification information.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the second advertisement signal is same as the first advertisement signal.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the passive device is an insulin pump and one of the medicament delivery operations is administering insulin.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein one of the medicament delivery operations is suspending an insulin administration if the analyte value falls below a threshold value.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the identification information includes a serial number provided to the passive device by a host associated with the analyte sensor system.

8. A system for wireless data communication comprising:

an analyte sensor system comprising a sensor electronics module coupled to a continuous analyte sensor configured to generate analyte sensor data, wherein the analyte sensor system is configured to transmit a series of advertisement signals;

a passive device configured to;

receive from a user an identification information associated with the analyte sensor system;

generate a key using the identification information;

receive a first advertisement signal from the analyte sensor system, the first advertisement signal being one of the series of advertisement signals transmitted by the analyte sensor system, wherein the analyte sensor system is configured to include the analyte sensor data in the first advertisement signal that is at least indicative of a glucose level, and to be used by the passive device, and

upon the reception of the first advertisement signal without establishing a data connection with the analyte sensor system, extract the analyte sensor data from the first advertisement signal to perform one or more medicament delivery operations based on the glucose level that is indicated by the extracted analyte sensor data, wherein the passive device extracts the analyte sensor data from the first advertisement signal using the key generated from the identification information associated with the analyte sensor system; and

an active display device configured to;

receive a second advertisement signal from the analyte sensor system, the second advertisement signal being one of the series of advertisement signals

transmitted by the analyte sensor system, wherein the analyte sensor system is configured to include the analyte sensor data in the second advertisement signal,

establish a two-way communication channel with the analyte sensor system in response to the second advertisement signal,

exchange information including the analyte sensor data, alarms, alert and calibration data with the analyte sensor system via the established communication channel,

terminate the communication channel, and display the analyte sensor data.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the glucose level includes an encoded glucose value.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the extraction further includes decoding the encoded glucose value utilizing the identification information.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the passive device is an insulin pump and one of the medicament delivery operations is insulin administration.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein one of the medicament delivery operations is to suspend insulin administration if the glucose level falls below a threshold value.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein the identification information includes a serial number provided to the passive device by a host associated with the analyte sensor system.
