1. A method for optimizing vehicle performance, the method comprising:

  • determining, by at least one processor, an optimized drive torque;

    detecting a driver requested drive torque;

    determining if the driver requested drive torque is at least one of performance related and safety related; and

    setting an arbitrated drive torque to the optimized drive torque when determining the driver requested drive torque is not performance related and safety related, and setting the arbitrated drive torque to the driver requested drive torque when determining the driver requested drive torque to be at least one of performance related and safety related;

    wherein the driver requested drive torque is at least one of performance related and safety related if related to at least one of;

    vehicle braking indicated by a brake pedal position greater or lesser than zero;

    decelerating indicated by an accelerator position at a time ti that is greater than an accelerator pedal position at a set time interval after ti;

    coasting indicated by an accelerator pedal position at a time of the driver requested drive torque that is less than an accelerator pedal position before the passage of a set time interval;

    changing lanes indicated by a turn signal on and the vehicle not decelerating;

    turning indicated by the turn signal on and the vehicle decelerating or coasting; and

    catching a traffic light indicated by a traffic light being within a predetermined distance of the vehicle, the vehicle has passed a slowing down distance from the traffic light, and the vehicle is not decelerating.
