1. A method for improving privacy of security cameras, comprising:

  • monitoring, via a security camera, an area to detect predetermined events, the security camera comprising an optical barrier, wherein at least one of the predetermined events indicate a change in status of a security system associated with the security camera;

    detecting, via the security camera, at least one of the predetermined events within the monitored area;

    based on detecting a change from a first status of the security system to a second status of the security system, repositioning, via the security camera, the optical barrier to cover a camera lens of the security camera, wherein repositioning the optical barrier comprises vertically pivoting the optical barrier from a first plane associated with the security camera to a second plane associated with the security camera;

    upon repositioning the optical barrier to cover the camera lens of the security camera, activating a first visual indicator to emit light in a first pattern, wherein the first pattern is associated with the second status of the security system and the camera lens of the security camera being covered;

    detecting a presence of a device associated with an occupant of the area, wherein the presence of the device is detected by the security camera while the camera lens of the security camera is covered by the optical barrier;

    determining, via the security camera, an identity of the occupant based at least in part on the device associated with the occupant;

    detecting a change in status of the security system associated with the security camera from the second status of the security system to the first status of the security system based at least in part on the determined identity of the occupant;

    automatically repositioning, via the security camera, the optical barrier to uncover the camera lens of the security camera based at least in part on the detected change in the status; and

    upon repositioning the optical barrier to uncover the camera lens of the security camera, activating a second visual indicator to emit light in a second pattern, wherein the second pattern is associated with the first status of the security system and the camera lens of the security camera being uncovered.
