1. A communication terminal comprising:

  • a plurality of antennas;

    a transceiver configured to receive a message indicating that a first antenna of the plurality of antennas is to be used as a transmission antenna by the communication terminal in accordance with an antenna assignment established via a communication protocol; and

    a controller configured to control the transceiver, and to compare a first transmission performance of the first antenna with a second transmission performance of a second antenna of the plurality of antennas according to a predetermined performance measure, and to cause the transceiver to (i) use the first antenna as the transmission antenna in compliance with the antenna assignment established via the communication protocol when the first transmission performance is greater than the second transmission performance, and (ii) override the antenna assignment established via the communication protocol and use the second antenna as the transmission antenna when the second transmission performance is greater than the first transmission performance,wherein the first transmission performance and the second transmission performance are measured in terms of power headroom measurements such that lower power headroom measurements correlate to lower transmission performance.
