1. A medical device having a processor comprising instructions configured to:

  • receive a measured medical parameter of a patient, wherein the measured medical parameter comprises a CO2 related parameter, a ventilation related parameter, respiration rate (RR), an oxygen related parameter, heart rate (HR), an electrocardiogram (ECG), encephalogram (EEG), blood parameter, spirometry, level of consciousness, level of sedation, or any combination thereof;

    compare the measured medical parameter or a trend of the measured medical parameter to a contextual threshold value, wherein the contextual threshold value is determined based on a personalized patient alarm management profile, wherein the personalized patient alarm management profile is based on at least two profile determinants;

    output a clinical recommendation in response to the personalized patient alarm management profile; and

    trigger an alarm when the measured medical parameter or the trend crosses the contextual threshold value, wherein the contextual threshold value is weighted by an incremental time factor.
