Motor-driven surgical instrument
First Claim
1. A surgical instrument system, comprising:
- an end effector, comprising;
an anvil moveable between an open position and a closed position; and
a cartridge channel configured to receive a staple cartridge;
an elongate shaft comprising a longitudinal shaft axis;
a motor-powered closure member moveable between a first position and a second position during a closure stroke, wherein said motor-powered closure member couples said anvil and said cartridge channel during said closure stroke; and
a motor-powered firing system, comprising;
a first flange configured to engage said anvil during a firing stroke;
a second flange configured to engage said cartridge channel during said firing stroke, wherein said first and second flanges couple said anvil and said cartridge channel during said firing stroke, and wherein said motor-powered closure member and said motor-powered firing system are separately actuatable; and
a rotatable drive screw operable to transmit said firing stroke.

Abstract
In various embodiments, a surgical instrument system comprising an end effector, an elongate shaft, a motor-powered closure member, and a motor-powered firing system is disclosed. The end effector comprises an anvil and a cartridge channel. The cartridge channel is configured to receive a staple cartridge. The motor-powered closure member is moveable between a first position and a second position during a closure stroke. The motor-powered closure member couples the anvil and the channel during the closure stroke. The motor-powered firing system comprises a first flange configured to engage the anvil during a firing stroke, a second flange configured to engage the cartridge channel during the firing stroke, and a rotatable drive screw operable to transmit the firing stroke. The first and second flanges couple the anvil and the channel during the firing stroke. The motor-powered closure member and the motor-powered firing system are separately actuatable.
