1. A method for assembling a stent delivery system comprising:

  • inserting a distal portion of a distensible stent into a proximal end of a first tubular member having a lumen extending therethrough, wherein the distal portion of the stent is in a constrained state and a proximal portion of the stent that is not inserted into the first tubular member is in an unconstrained state; and

inserting a second elongate member into the proximal end of the first tubular member, the second elongate member having a stent-engaging portion, causing the stent-engaging portion to pass through the unconstrained proximal portion of the stent and engage the constrained distal portion of the stent as the second elongate member moves through the first tubular member such that relative movement of the second elongate member causes relative movement of the stent.
