1. A computer-implemented method, the method comprising:

  • identifying, via the one or more processors, public parking lots within a virtual navigation map, and determining whether each public parking lot is associated with a hazardous area or not;

    determining, via the one or more processors, that a vehicle is approaching or parking in a public parking lot associated with a hazardous area along, or near to, a preexisting navigation route to an ultimate destination;

    in response to determining that the vehicle is approaching or parking in the public parking lot associated with a hazardous area, automatically selecting, via the one or more processors, a nearby public parking lot that is along, or within a predetermined vicinity of, a preexisting navigation route, wherein the nearby public parking lot is not associated with a hazardous area;

    generating, via the one or more processors, a route from a current position of the vehicle to the nearby public parking lot that is not associated with a hazardous area; and

    routing, via one or more transceivers and/or the one or more processors, the vehicle to the nearby public parking lot using the generated route.
