1. An apparatus comprising:
- a memory and at least one processor and/or at least one circuit to perform the operations of the following units;
a display control unit configured to display a first type of image generated with a first gradation characteristic, and a second type of image generated with a second gradation characteristic having a higher gradation quality on a high-luminance side than the first gradation characteristic; and
a control unit configured to perform control such that luminance of a display unit is set to second luminance higher than first luminance of a case where the first type of image is displayed on the display unit, in a case where the second type of image is displayed on the display unit,wherein in a case where a luminance setting of the display unit is a luminance setting as bright as or brighter than a predetermined value, the control unit performs control such that an output gamma characteristic with which the second type of image is output on the display unit is set to a second output gamma characteristic that enables a low-luminance side to be displayed more brightly than a first output gamma characteristic with which the first type of image is output on the display unit.

performing display control of displaying a first type of image generated with a first gradation characteristic and a second type of image generated with a second gradation characteristic having a higher gradation quality on a high-luminance side than the first gradation characteristic; and performing control such that luminance of a display unit is set to second luminance higher than first luminance of a case where the first type of image is displayed, in a case where the second type of image is displayed, wherein in a case where a luminance setting of the display unit is a luminance setting as bright as or brighter than a predetermined value, the performing control such that an output gamma characteristic with which the second type of image is output on the display unit is set to a second output gamma characteristic that enables a low-luminance side to be displayed more brightly than a first output gamma characteristic with which the first type of image is output on the display unit.
