1. A subscriber unit for communicating with a network device, wherein the network device is in communication, during a time slot, with a first plurality of subscriber units each associated with a sequence that is different from sequences associated with other subscriber units of the first plurality of subscriber units, and with a second plurality of subscriber units each associated with a sequence that is also associated with other subscriber units of the second plurality of subscriber units and an orthogonal sequence that is different from an orthogonal sequence of other subscriber units of the second plurality of subscriber units, the subscriber unit comprising:

  • an antenna; and

    transmitter circuitry operatively coupled to the antenna and configured to transmit a wireless signal in the time slot;

    wherein the subscriber unit is one of the first plurality of subscriber units; and

    wherein the wireless signal is generated using the sequence that is different from the sequences associated with other subscriber units of the first plurality of subscriber units, and not using the orthogonal sequence.
