Abstract

Systems and techniques are provided for learned overrides for home security. A sensor of a security system may be armed. A trip signal may be received indicating a tripping of the sensor. It may be determined that the trip signal can be automatically overridden based on matching an identity of the sensor and a state of the security system with a pattern in a model. The pattern may represent a state of the security system in which automatically overriding the trip signal from the sensor is permitted. The trip signal from the sensor may be automatically overridden without input from a user.

Claims

1. A method for operating a security system, the method comprising:

receiving, at a processor, a sensor signal from a first sensor of the security system;

determining, by the processor in response to a receipt of the sensor signal, a match between a current condition of a state of the security system and a pattern of the state of the security system, the state of the security system defined by values of a set of parameters of the security system, wherein the match is deemed to exist in response to at least one of;

a first determination that a percentage, of the parameters in the set of the parameters of the security system configured according to the current condition having values that are a same as values of the parameters in the set of the parameters of the security system configured according to the pattern, is greater than a threshold percentage, or

a second determination, by a machine learning system, that the match exists, the second determination having a confidence level that is greater than a threshold confidence level; and

causing, by the processor in response to a determination of the match, the sensor signal to be overridden.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

sending, from the processor in response to a determination of a lack of the match, an override request to a user device; and

receiving, at the processor from the user device, a response to the override request.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising causing, by the processor in response to a receipt of the response to the override request, the sensor signal to be overridden.

4. The method of claim 2, further comprising updating, by the processor in response to a number of receipts of responses to override requests being greater than a threshold number, a model that includes the pattern.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the updating comprises updating the pattern.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the updated comprises:

producing a new pattern; and

adding the new pattern to the model.

The method of claim 4, wherein the current condition of the state of the security system is a particular state of the security system and the override requests were sent in response to determinations of lacks of matches between the particular state of the security system and the pattern of the state of the security system.

8. The method of claim 2, further comprising displaying, by the processor in response to the determination of the lack of the match, the override request on a display of the security system.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving the sensor signal comprises wirelessly receiving the sensor signal.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising causing, by the processor in response to the sensor signal being overridden, the security system to refrain from producing an alert signal in response to the receipt of the sensor signal.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the sensor signal comprises a trip signal.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining, by the processor in response to the receipt of the sensor signal, that the sensor signal comprises a trip signal.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the parameters comprise at least one of a mode of the security system, a time of day, a day of a week, a day of a month, a day of a year, a state of a second sensor of the security system, or a presence of a person in an environment monitored by the security system.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising receiving, by the processor, a signal that indicates the presence of the person in the environment monitored by the security system.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the signal that indicates the presence of the person in the environment monitored by the security system comprises an electromagnetic signal from a portable electronic device.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the signal that indicates the presence of the person in the environment monitored by the security system comprises a signal from a biometric scanning device.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the match is deemed to exist in response to a third determination and at least one of the first determination or the second determination, the third determination being that a state of the first sensor in the current condition of the state of the security system is identical to the state of the first sensor in the pattern of the state of the security system.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the sensor signal indicates a degree of openness of an entryway monitored by the first sensor, the degree of openness being less than fully open.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer code for controlling a processor to cause the processor to operate a security system, the computer code including instructions to cause the processor to:

receive a sensor signal from a sensor of the security system;

determine, in response to a receipt of the sensor signal, a match between a current condition of a state of the security system and a pattern of the state of the security system, the state of the security system defined by values of a set of parameters of the security system, wherein the match is deemed to exist in response to at least one of;

a first determination that a percentage, of the parameters in the set of the parameters of the security system configured according to the current condition having values that are a same as values of the parameters in the set of the parameters of the security system configured according to the pattern, is greater than a threshold percentage, or

a second determination, by a machine learning system, that the match exists, the second determination having a confidence level that is greater than a threshold confidence level; and

cause, in response to a determination of the match, the sensor signal to be overridden.

20. A system for operating a security system, the system comprising:

a communication interface configured to receive a sensor signal from a sensor of the security system; and

a processor configured to;

determine, in response to a receipt of the sensor signal, a match between a current condition of a state of the security system and a pattern of the state of the security system, the state of the security system defined by values of a set of parameters of the security system, wherein the match is deemed to exist in response to at least one of;

a first determination that a percentage, of the parameters in the set of the parameters of the security system configured according to the current condition having values that are a same as values of the parameters in the set of the parameters of the security system configured according to the pattern, is greater than a threshold percentage, or

a second determination, by a machine learning system, that the match exists, the second determination having a confidence level that is greater than a threshold confidence level; and

cause, in response to a determination of the match, the sensor signal to be overridden.
