- an earpiece including a housing configured to house a plurality of microphones;
a first physical microphone of the plurality of microphones, the first physical microphone being configured to receive an acoustic signal and, in response to receiving the acoustic signal, outputting a microphone signal;
a second physical microphone of the plurality of microphones, the second physical microphone being configured to receive the acoustic signal or another acoustic signal and, in response to receiving the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal, outputting another microphone signal;
a third physical microphone, of the plurality of microphones, the third physical microphone being configured to receive the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal and, in response to receiving the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal, outputting a further microphone signal;
a first virtual microphone formed using at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, the first virtual microphone being configured to generate an output signal using the at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, wherein the first virtual microphone forms a first order gradient microphone; and
a second virtual microphone formed using at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, the second virtual microphone being configured to generate another output signal using the at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, the output signal and the another output signal being configured to generate a further output signal having less acoustic noise than the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal, and wherein the second virtual microphone forms another first order gradient microphone, wherein the first virtual microphone and the second virtual microphone are formed within the housing.

a second virtual microphone formed using at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, the second virtual microphone being configured to generate another output signal using the at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, the output signal and the another output signal being configured to generate a further output signal having less acoustic noise than the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal, and wherein the second virtual microphone forms another first order gradient microphone, wherein the first virtual microphone and the second virtual microphone are formed within the housing.

an earpiece including a housing configured to house a plurality of microphones, the plurality of microphones including a first virtual microphone formed within in the housing using at least one of a first microphone signal, a second microphone signal, and a third microphone signal, the first virtual microphone being configured to generate an output signal using at least one of the first microphone signal, the second microphone signal, and the third microphone signal, the output signal comprising a combination of the first microphone signal and the third microphone signal, wherein the first microphone signal is generated by a first physical microphone and the third microphone signal is generated by a third physical microphone, wherein the first virtual microphone forms a first order gradient microphone; and a second virtual microphone formed within the housing using at least one of the first microphone signal, the second microphone signal, and the third microphone signal, the second virtual microphone being configured to generate another output signal using the first microphone signal, the second microphone signal, and the third microphone signal, the output signal and the another output signal being configured to generate a further output signal having less acoustic noise than an acoustic signal received at the first physical microphone or an another acoustic signal received at a second physical microphone that generates the second microphone signal, the further output signal comprising a combination of the second microphone signal and the third microphone signal, wherein the second microphone signal is generated by the second physical microphone, wherein the third physical microphone functions as a common rear vent for the first and the second virtual microphones, and wherein the second virtual microphone forms another first order gradient microphone. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)
