1. A device comprising:

  • an earpiece including a housing configured to house a plurality of microphones;

    a first physical microphone of the plurality of microphones, the first physical microphone being configured to receive an acoustic signal and, in response to receiving the acoustic signal, outputting a microphone signal;

    a second physical microphone of the plurality of microphones, the second physical microphone being configured to receive the acoustic signal or another acoustic signal and, in response to receiving the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal, outputting another microphone signal;

    a third physical microphone, of the plurality of microphones, the third physical microphone being configured to receive the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal and, in response to receiving the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal, outputting a further microphone signal;

    a first virtual microphone formed using at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, the first virtual microphone being configured to generate an output signal using the at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, wherein the first virtual microphone forms a first order gradient microphone; and

    a second virtual microphone formed using at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, the second virtual microphone being configured to generate another output signal using the at least one of the microphone signal, the another microphone signal, and the further microphone signal, the output signal and the another output signal being configured to generate a further output signal having less acoustic noise than the acoustic signal or the another acoustic signal, and wherein the second virtual microphone forms another first order gradient microphone, wherein the first virtual microphone and the second virtual microphone are formed within the housing.
