1. An embedded electronic asset tracking device comprising:

  • a housing;

    at least one geolocating sensor disposed in the housing;

    at least one further sensor disposed in or on the housing, the at least one further sensor sensing properties, concepts and/or characteristic information affecting context of an asset associated with the embedded electronic asset tracking device;

    at least one network interface disposed in the housing;

    a processor disposed in the housing, the processor structured to receive inputs from the at least one geolocating sensor and the at least one further sensor, the processor connected to communicate via the at least one network interface; and

    a non-transitory memory device disposed in the housing and connected to the processor, the non-transitory memory device storing instructions that when executed by the processor provide a computational engine that automatically maintains chain of custody (COC) information associated with the asset associated with the embedded electronic asset tracking device;

    the non-transitory memory device storing further instructions that when executed by the processor manages and executes at least one of additional and different programming applications;

    the processor being further configured to record inputs from the at least one further sensor;

    the processor being further configured to communicate with at least one network accessible computational service via the at least one network interface to report and receive information based on desired time intervals and/or circumstances;

    wherein the COC information comprises capturing at least one of;

    a) where the asset is now;

    b) what is happening to the asset; and

    c) who is interfacing with the asset;

    the processor being further structured to compare the captured information to static information comprising at least one of;

    a) where the asset should be going;

    b) where the asset should be now;

    c) what should be happening to the asset; and

    d) who should be interfacing with the asset;

    the COC information further comprising chronological procedure and logical procedure information with time-based recordkeeping having no gaps or dark or unknown time periods;

    the processor being further configured to proactively, contemporaneously determine deviation between the captured and the static information based on the context of the asset in response to evaluation of the current state/context of the asset,the processor being further configured to generate an alert in response to determination that at least one deviation determined by the processor falls outside of a limit specified by the static information.
