1. A stent delivery system, comprising:

  • a stent including a generally non-expandable tubular member having a proximal end, a distal end and a central longitudinal axis, wherein the proximal end of the stent includes a radially inward extending lip;

    an elongate shaft extending distally from a handle assembly to a location proximal of the proximal end of the stent;

    an inner elongate member extending through a lumen of the elongate shaft and a lumen of the stent, wherein the inner elongate member includes a projection configured to form an interference fit with the lip;

    wherein the inner elongate member is longitudinally moveable from a first position in which the projection is distal to the lip, to a second position in which the projection is proximal to the lip to effect disengagement of the stent from the elongate shaft; and

    wherein the lip defines an opening having a diameter that is smaller than a diameter of the projection.
