1. A first electronic device comprising:

  • a data storage medium configured during manufacture to store at least a first device identifier that distinguishes the first electronic device from other devices of the same type, and additional information indicating a second electronic device interoperable with the first electronic device;

    a hardware processor configured to cause the first electronic device to;

    determine an initialization event;

    in response to the initialization event, send a network signal to a provisioning service, wherein the network signal communicates at least the identifier and the additional information;

    receive a device configuration in response to the network signal, wherein the device configuration is specific to an entity in a supply chain through which the first electronic device traveled, and wherein the first device identifier is linked to the entity via the provisioning service in response to a transaction occurring in the supply chain, the device configuration to program the first electronic device to interoperate with the second electronic device in response to the initialization event; and

    apply the device configuration to the first electronic device.
