1. A computer-implemented method of evaluating energy harvesting potential comprising:
- receiving over time point-in-time illuminance data into a mobile device for incorporation into a building information model of a building;
calibrating by at least one processing device a site-specific light simulation model for the building using the building information model incorporating the point-in-time illuminance data;
determining by the at least one processing device energy availability for energy harvesting in the building based on the calibrated site-specific light simulation model;
comparing by the at least one processing device a power usage profile of a given photovoltaic cell powered electronic device-to average energy available at a given location included in the site-specific light simulation model;
determining by the at least one processing device feasibility of continuous operation of the given device at the given location based on a result of the comparison and power requirements of the given device; and
providing by the at least one processing device, when determined feasible, a location within the building for mounting the given device.

Abstract
A method of evaluating energy harvesting potential includes receiving point-in-time illuminance data into a mobile device for incorporation into a building information model of a building. A site-specific light simulation model for the building is calibrated using the building information model incorporating the point-in-time illuminance data. The method also includes determining energy availability for energy harvesting in the building based on the calibrated site-specific light simulation model.
