1. A method of determining proper operation of an HVAC system including a controller in communication with an HVAC unit, the method comprising:
- (a) operating the controller to generate a test condition;
(b) operating the HVAC unit in a heating or cooling mode;
if the test condition is satisfied;
(c) operating the controller to determine whether the HVAC unit is performing at an operational tolerance level;
(d) operating the controller to generate an alert signal if the HVAC unit is not performing at the operational tolerance level.
