1. A security device, comprising:

  • a scanner configured to transmit at least two selectable scanning beams of electromagnetic waves at a person, and to receive a return of the electromagnetic waves from the person;

    a controller configured to;

    engage the scanner in a first scanning mode that includes a first scanning of the person with a first scanning beam of electromagnetic waves;

    receive a return of the first scanning beam of electromagnetic waves from the person;

    produce a representation of the person based on the returned first scanning beam of electromagnetic waves;

    determine a property of a second scanning mode based on the representation;

    engage the scanner in a second scanning mode that includes a second scanning of the person with a second scanning beam of electromagnetic waves;

    receive a return of the second scanning beam of electromagnetic waves from the person;

    detect an indicia of a contraband carried by the person in response to the return of the second scanning beam;

    output a signal indicative of the detected contraband; and

    an operator indicator device responsive to the output signal indicative of the detected contraband.
