1. An electrophoretic display comprising:
- (a) a plurality of pixels, each pixel comprising two subpixels;
(b) an electrophoretic medium comprising a first type of particle having a first optical characteristic and a positive zeta potential, a second type of particle having a second optical characteristic and a negative zeta potential, a third type of particle having a third optical characteristic and a positive zeta potential lower than that of the first type of particle, and a fourth type of particle having a fourth optical characteristic and a negative zeta potential lower than that of the second type of particle, the first, second, third and fourth optical characteristics being different from one another; and
(c) a driver configured to drive the subpixels of the plurality of pixels,wherein each of the subpixels is capable of displaying the first, second, third, and fourth optical characteristics, and each pixel is capable of displaying the first, second, third, and fourth optical characteristics as well as fifth, sixth, and seventh optical characteristics different from the first, second, third and fourth optical characteristics, and different from each other.

Abstract
A full color display device in which each pixel can display at least seven different optical states. Each pixel comprises two subpixels, and each subpixel includes a respective subpixel electrode driven by a driver. The electrophoretic fluid includes four types of particles, dispersed in a solvent or solvent mixture and each subpixel can display at least four different color states.
