1. Apparatus for securing an object to bone, said apparatus comprising:

  • a handle having a distal end and a proximal end;

    a tube extending distally from said handle, the tube comprising a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the proximal end is fixedly mounted to the handle;

    a shaft extending distally from said handle, the shaft comprising a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the proximal end is movably mounted to the handle, and further wherein at least a portion of the shaft is disposed within the tube;

    an elongated member movably mounted to the handle and independently movable relative to the shaft; and

    an anchor comprising a first portion and a second portion, the first portion and the second portion being movable relative to one another, wherein at least a portion of the anchor is received in the tube, wherein one of the first portion and the second portion is releasably mechanically connected to the shaft and the other of the first portion and the second portion is releasably connected to the elongated member, wherein one of the first portion and the second portion carries a filament, and further wherein the first portion and the second portion are configured so that relative movement between the portion of the anchor carrying the filament and the portion of the anchor not carrying the filament binds the filament between the first portion and the second portion so as to bind the filament to the anchor.
