Abstract

A method for generating a personal identification number (PIN) debit child product for use in performing a debit payment transaction with a merchant entity. A payment processing platform receives a user selection of a financial institution made via a merchant payment page and directs the user to authenticate a user identity with the financial institution. The payment processing platform receives a user selection of a core account held with the financial institution, such that the core account provides financial backing for the child product. The child product is generated that includes a child card number and a virtual PIN associated with the core account. Advantageously, the method provides the ability to make PIN debit transaction on the Internet.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

displaying a first webpage on a display device in a web browser application executing on a computer system, wherein the first webpage includes a code segment that is executed to automatically populate fields in the first webpage;

receiving, from a browser add-on installed on a second webpage, virtual card information associated with a virtual card that is generated via the second webpage and linked to a core account that provides financial backing for the virtual card, the virtual card information comprising a card number and a card verification value (“

CVV”

);

incorporating the virtual card information into the code segment; and

executing the code segment to automatically populate the fields in the first webpage.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the virtual card information further comprises at least one of a virtual personal identification number (“

PIN”

), a virtual expiration date, and a virtual name on a card.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein executing the code segment comprises executing the code segment to populate the fields with the virtual card information.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the first webpage comprises a merchant payment page and the fields included in the first webpage comprise payment fields.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the second webpage comprises a secure payment page.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the core account is held with a financial institution.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the code segment comprises a script.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising downloading the browser add-on from a server and installing the browser add-on in the first webpage and the second webpage.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising downloading the browser add-on from a server and installing the browser add-on in the second webpage, wherein the browser add-on is not installed in the first webpage.

10. A computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause a computer system to perform the steps of:

displaying a first webpage on a display device in a web browser application executing on the computer system, wherein the first webpage includes a code segment that is executed to automatically populate fields in the first webpage;

receiving, from a browser add-on installed on a second webpage, virtual card information associated with a virtual card that is generated via the second webpage and linked to a core account that provides financial backing for the virtual card, the virtual card information comprising a card number and a card verification value (“

CVV”

);

incorporating the virtual card information into the code segment; and

executing the code segment to automatically populate the fields in the first webpage.

11. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the virtual card information further comprises at least one of a virtual personal identification number (“

PIN”

), a virtual expiration date, and a virtual name on a card.

12. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein executing the code segment comprises executing the code segment to populate the fields with the virtual card information.

13. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the first webpage comprises a merchant payment page and the fields included in the first webpage comprise payment fields.

14. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the second webpage comprises a secure payment page.

15. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the core account is held with a financial institution.

16. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the code segment comprises a script.

17. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein:

displaying the first webpage comprises displaying the first webpage on the display device in a first instance of the web browser application executing on the computer system; and

the virtual card information is transmitted from the second webpage only to the first webpage and is not transmitted to other open instances of the web browser application.

18. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein:

displaying the first webpage comprises displaying the first webpage on the display device in a first instance of the web browser application executing on the computer system; and

the virtual card information is transmitted from the second webpage to each open instance of the web browser application.

19. A computing system comprising:

a memory storing instructions;

a display device for displaying processor output; and

a processor that is coupled to the memory and, when executing the instructions, is configured to perform the steps of;

displaying a first webpage on the display device in a web browser application executing on the computer system, wherein the first webpage includes a code segment that is executed to automatically populate fields in the first webpage;

receiving, from a browser add-on installed on a second webpage, virtual card information associated with a virtual card that is generated via the second webpage and linked to a core account that provides financial backing for the virtual card, the virtual card information comprising a card number and a card verification value (“

CVV”

);

incorporating the virtual card information into the code segment; and

executing the code segment to automatically populate the fields in the first webpage.

20. The computing system of claim 19, wherein the virtual card information further comprises at least one of a virtual personal identification number (“

PIN”

), a virtual expiration date, and a virtual name on a card.
