1. A surgical knife safety handle, comprising:

  • a handle body having a longitudinal axis, said handle body having a patterned nonslip surface;

    a knife holder for carrying a knife blade at a distal end of said handle body;

    a guard, having an enlarged distal end which extends radially upward from a top side of said guard beyond an outer circumference of a proximal end of said guard to facilitate user contact with said enlarged distal end for handle orientation and control, said top side of said guard having a patterned non-slip surface, said guard also having a bottom portion, opposite to said top side, and extending from and connecting lateral sides of the enlarged distal end to provide said guard with a continuous circumferential portion, said bottom portion having a patterned nonslip surface disposed distally of and adjoining a proximal shoulder, and a cutout extending proximally from said proximal shoulder;

    wherein said guard is configured to at least partially enclose said knife blade carried by said knife holder, said guard being longitudinally moveable with respect to said handle body between an exposed position exposing said knife blade and a covered position covering said knife blade; and

    a positioning element having a textured user-interface portion and extending radially upward from the top side of said guard, said positioning element being configured to allow a user to longitudinally move said guard to selectively expose or cover said knife blade;

    wherein in the exposed position, a proximal-most end of said patterned nonslip surfaces of said handle body and said top side of said guard are in circumferential alignment such that a plane that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the handle body at the proximal-most end of said patterned non-slip surface of the handle body extends though the top side of said guard; and

    wherein in the exposed position, the positioning element is located proximal to the proximal end of said patterned non-slip surface of the handle body.
