Abstract

A pool cleaning robot that may include a filtering unit for filtering water that passes through the pool cleaning robot; a sensor for sensing a cleanliness of the filtering unit while submerged in water; a controller that is configured to determine, based on the cleanliness of the filtering unit, a cleaning process to be applied on the pool cleaning robot by an external system; and a communication unit that is configured to transmit information about the cleaning process.

Claims

1. A pool cleaning robot, comprising:

a filtering unit for filtering water that passes through the pool cleaning robot;

a sensor for sensing a cleanliness of the filtering unit while submerged in water;

wherein the sensor is selected out of (a) a power sensor for monitoring power consumed by a pump motor of the pool cleaning robot;

(b) an image sensor for imaging the filtering unit, (c) a rotation sensor for sensing a rotational speed of an impeller of the pool cleaning robot;

(d) a pressure sensor for sensing a pressure level within the pool cleaning robot;

a controller that is configured to determine, based on the cleanliness of the filtering unit, a cleaning process to be applied on the pool cleaning robot by an external system; and

a communication unit that is configured to transmit information about the cleaning process.

2. The pool cleaning robot according to claim 1 wherein the communication unit is further adapted to transmit information about the cleanliness of the filtering unit.

The pool cleaning robot according to claim 1 wherein the controller is configured to determine at least one parameter out of (a) a duration of the cleaning process, (b) a duration of one or more phases of the cleaning process, (c) a cleaning material to be used during the cleaning process, and (d) one or more cleaning materials to be used during one or more phases of the cleaning process.

4. The pool cleaning robot according to claim 1 comprising a drive system, an impeller, a pump motor and a housing an inlet and an outlet.

5. A pool cleaning robot, comprising:

a filtering unit for filtering water that passes through the pool cleaning robot;

a sensor for sensing a cleanliness of the filtering unit (a) before the pool cleaning robot reaches an external system that is configured to apply a cleaning process on the pool cleaning robot and (b) at one or more points in time during the cleaning process;

wherein the sensor is selected out of (a) a power sensor for monitoring power consumed by a pump motor of the pool cleaning robot;

(b) an image sensor for imaging the filtering unit, (c) a rotation sensor for sensing a rotational speed of an impeller of the pool cleaning robot;

(d) a pressure sensor for sensing a pressure level within the pool cleaning robot; and

a communication unit that is configured to transmit information about the cleanliness of the filtering unit.

6. The pool cleaning robot according to claim 5 comprising a drive system, an impeller, a pump motor and a housing an inlet and an outlet.

7. A system for cleaning a pool cleaning robot, the system comprises a controller, a communication system and a cleaning unit;

wherein the communication system is configured to receive information about a cleanliness of a filtering unit of the pool cleaning robot;

wherein the controller is configured to determine, based on the cleanliness of the filtering unit, a cleaning process to be applied on the pool cleaning robot by the system; and

wherein the cleaning unit is configured to apply the cleaning process on the pool cleaning robot; and

wherein the cleaning unit comprises a cleaning element manipulator for determining a spatial relationship between a cleaning element of the cleaning unit and the filtering unit.

The system according to claim 7 wherein the controller is configured to determine at least one parameter out of (a) a duration of the cleaning process, (b) a duration of one or more phases of the cleaning process, (c) a cleaning material to be used during the cleaning process, and (d) one or more cleaning materials to be used during one or more phases of the cleaning process.

9. A system for cleaning a pool cleaning robot, the system comprises a controller, a communication system and a cleaning unit;

wherein the communication system is configured to receive information about a cleanliness of a filtering unit of the pool cleaning robot;

wherein the controller is configured to determine, based on the cleanliness of the filtering unit, a cleaning process to be applied on the pool cleaning robot by the system; and

wherein the cleaning unit is configured to apply the cleaning process on the pool cleaning robot;

wherein the cleaning unit comprises a cleaning element that is configured, once positioned within a space surrounded by the filtering unit of the pool cleaning robot, to direct fluid towards an interior of the filtering unit.

10. The system according to claim 9 wherein the cleaning element is a nozzled pop-up water jets thrusting sprinkler.

11. The system according to claim 9 wherein the cleaning element comprises a value that is configured to create intermittent water jets.

12. The system according to claim 9 wherein the cleaning element is an apertured bag.

13. The system according to claim 9 wherein the cleaning element is rigid.

14. The system according to claim 9 wherein the cleaning element is elastic.

15. The system according to claim 9 wherein the cleaning unit comprises an additional cleaning element for contacting the interior of the filtering unit during the cleaning process.

16. The system according to claim 9 wherein the cleaning unit comprises an additional cleaning element for contacting, during the cleaning process, debris that extend from the interior of the filtering unit without contacting the filtering unit.

17. The system according to claim 9 wherein the cleaning element, once inserted through a first opening of the pool cleaning robot into a space surrounded by the filtering unit of the pool cleaning robot, blocks only a part of the first opening.

18. the system according to claim 9 comprising a sensor that is configured to sense a cleanliness of a filtering unit of the pool cleaning robot, once positioned within a space surrounded by the filtering unit of the pool cleaning robot.
