Multiple interleaved coil structures for wireless power transfer
First Claim
1. A coil structure comprising:
- a first plurality of wires formed in a first direction and a first section of the coil structure, comprising;
a plurality of first wire segments disposed in a first region of the coil structure, wherein the plurality of first wire segments are disposed parallel to each other;
a plurality of second wire segments formed in a second region of the coil structure, wherein the plurality of second wire segments are disposed parallel to each other;
a plurality of first interconnection wire segments disposed in a fifth region of the coil structure between the first region and the second region and electrically connect the plurality of first wire segments and the plurality of second wire segments, respectively; and
a second plurality of wires disposed in a second direction and in a second section of the coil structure, comprising;
a plurality of third wire segments deposed in a third region of the coil structure, wherein the plurality of third wire segments are disposed parallel to each other;
a plurality of fourth wire segments formed in a fourth region of the coil structure, wherein the plurality of fourth wire segments are disposed parallel to each other;
a plurality of second interconnection wire segments disposed in a sixth region of the coil structure between the third region and the fourth region and electrically connect the plurality of third wire segments and the plurality of fourth wire segments, respectively;
wherein,the plurality of first wire segments, the plurality of second wire segments, the plurality of third wire segments, and the plurality of fourth wire segments each are substantially arc shaped, andthe first section opposes the second section in a direction other than the first direction and the second direction.

Abstract
In one embodiment, a multiple interleaved coil structure for wireless power transfer includes a plurality of incomplete coils, each of the plurality of incomplete coils configured such that an alternating current flowing in the incomplete coil produces a magnetic field, and at least one interconnect between the plurality of incomplete coils, the at least one interconnect including a plurality of conductors arranged in such a way that the alternating current flowing in the plurality of conductors does not produce a magnetic field. Each of the plurality of incomplete coils includes a plurality of non-contiguous segments arranged in such a way that the incomplete coil will emit magnetic flux in response to an applied alternating current. The multiple interleaved coil structure can be implemented in a wireless power transmitter or a wireless power receiver.
