1. A method for accessing data in a storage network, the storage network including a redundant array of independent disk (RAID) memory and at least one dispersed storage network (DSN) memory, the method comprises:

  • determining, based at least in part on metadata associated with first RAID data, whether to process the first RAID data using the RAID memory, the at least one DSN memory, or a combination of the RAID memory and the at least one DSN memory and producing a determination; and

    processing the first RAID data using the RAID memory, the at least one DSN memory, or a combination of the RAID memory and the at least one DSN memory based on the determination.
