1. A method of manufacturing a tissue-integration device, the method comprising the step of:

  • overlapping layers of a porous sheet material to form the device and such as to create spaces defined by overlapping pores of adjacent layers;

    compressing the layers together to at least partially laminate the layers of the device, wherein the compression step is undertaken in two stages, wherein the first stage in the compression step comprises applying pressure to the layers before the addition of the growth-promoting medium to at least partially laminate the layers, wherein the second stage in the compression step comprises applying pressure to the partially laminated layers following the addition of the growth-promoting medium; and

    forming an outer profile on the device during the second stage of the compression step.
